Just curious how many of the guys here fix their K5's up nice for daily driving and how many 1-ton, rock crawl, beat on their K5's? So which is it.

Yes, I know you can make a decent DD rig that wheels decent but dangit just pick one of the two choices ha ha

I bought mine with the intent of being offroad only. With gas prices now I wouldn't want a K5 for my daily driver unless it was get at least 20mpg

mud slinging, rock crawling, ford crushing, far from a dd thats for sure.

I bought it to fix it up.:cool1:

Then i beat it up.

I have one of each. I am going to fix up the 70 later this summer. Until the it is hack and whack on the 79:D

money and hours Im pouring into the v3500 customized resto.... its going to be a working pimpmobile.... maybe fireroads... but nothing hardcore....

Im too old now it hurts my juevos....

but I love to watch you guys crash and burn:D :D :D

Have you flopped your DD lately??:cool1:

Sorry, I can't vote. I think you can fix it up AND wheel it.

It may never be a show truck but if you know how to drive, it should still
remain in decent shape. Sorry
If you can't drive, just gun it and have fun! It might last for a couple trips :D

I'm kinda with you on this one. My '72 is ok right now and soon to be better. I'm gonna try and keep the sheet metal intact and still have fun, but no fancy resto.

I can't really vote either. Although I'm just getting started on this ones build up, I bought it to wheel, but I plan to keep it streetable as well. If I do rake the side of it along a rock then that's just the nature of the beast I guess... but I plan to try and avoid it as much as I can. I want to be able to drive it to where I wheel it. So, it would help if I kept it as intact as I can...

Why Not Both

I have to agree with STORM TROOPER on this in some cases. I have 1 ton axles supports,locker,38's,dual winches, etc as well but have put so much money in fixing rust and making it look descent that in my case I stay more in mud and trails than rocks even though I can do it if I want. If I tear the body up then so be it, but I don't want to do it intentionally. However if I had a lot of rocks in my area I might not feel the same way. who knows

I got a '91 for DD and a '78 for wheelin'. Is that cheating??

i am purly into restoration, there is somthing about sinking lots of money and time into a k5 that I built from the frame up and made it pristine, then getting to drive it daily.....

I like to keep the sheet metal strait, I know you guys wont understand or beleave me, but I have a hard time hitting my sheet metal on anything...

I bought brand new fenders and took the sawzall to them as soon as I put them on, does that count as fixing up or beating up

:haha:

I'm more inclined ot keeping my truck a good runin DD, weekend rig. There isnt much in th way of rocks here, or back home, just lots of back wood trails and MUD! Infact, I migth be puttin a new motor in befor eI leave..my freakin cylinder head of spittin oil :D

fixin mine up as a DD, but until its painted and bodywork done, it gets wheeled good. Lookin for a 1ton truck to make into offroad only.
