Make it nice, or wheel the $hit out of them?

i bought my 75, it was already a wheeler, that is why i bought it, to wheel the pee out of it. i didn't have to feel bad about tearing up a vintage k5, since some one else had already started.

i would like to have a 72 to restore though.

Just curious how many of the guys here fix their K5's up nice for daily driving and how many 1-ton, rock crawl, beat on their K5's? So which is it.
Yes, I know you can make a decent DD rig that wheels decent but dangit just pick one of the two choices ha ha

LOL. I fall into both categories. Daily Driven '72 K/5 for 6 years and counting...
I bought my truck in January '99. I kept it clean and was going more for restoring for the first 5 years... Then i found CK5 and slowly have been converted over to the dark side... A little over a year ago the D60 went in the front and i flopped the k/5 on its side putting some nice dents in the passanger side... It's all down hill from there.

But i'm proud to have a damn capable K5 that i drive every day to work and school. Nothing like some of the looks or thumbs up that you get.

my truck was pretty cherry stocker when i bought it. im just doing mild mods to it. tastefully mild wheeler/driver. gotta keep good street manners causs its my DD. plus the PO is a family friend that didnt want me to jack it up and throw big meats under it. tho now i plan to hack the fenders a bit more and squeeze 35's under the 3" lift ...shhhhh:wink1:

zcarzcar, your truck is awesome. did u build or buy that front bumper?

I built it, its for sale BTW, PM me for more info.

I have one of each. Crew cab is getting the customized resto and the blaze, well its no longer normal in any sense of the word and will be abused!

The poll is flawed, I did both. Restored it, wheeled it, drove it, got a few dings, more tube. and on and on. It did take 6 years though:grin:

I bought mine for posing, and mudding - then decided I wanted a rock crawler... now it's for sitting in the hanger collecting dust. I think there is a money shredder somewhere around it. I keep throwing money at it, but nothing happens :D

I bought mine to tow my trail rig a year and a half ago. That got sold, and i started wheeling the K5.

This was taken this past saturday, the 12th.:

Its getting there, slowly but surely.

It depends on how good it looks. I have my 87k5 that will never see dirt, other than backing my boat in at the lake. But my previous k5s saw tons of dirt, even rolled one. the reason my 87 doesnt is because I have alot of $$$ into the paint(3 stage pearl white).

I want to see pics of the '87:D

My 70 is too rare and straight to bash up. I will take it out in the snow and mud to play, but no rocks.Looking at a 80 SWB to turn into a crawler tho.

I'm not sure how to vote.

Don't they both go together when you have a real truck?

Fix it up
Beat it up
Fix it up again
Beat it up again
Fix it up some more
Beat it up some more.

If you aren't gonna use your truck, why bother? Just buy a car.

I originally bought mine because my Dad has always had one and wanted me to get one also for hunting/camping trips with the family. He has always believed K5's were the most capable off road rigs and easiest to work on. Plus they are roomy enough for the family. Well like others have mentioned CK5 turned my rig into an overpriced bent to hell K5! Over the past year I have gotten some decent body damage. I wheel where all the Jeeps go and I will try anything regardless of what it might do to the body. It's the adrenaline rush that gets me going. That's why I love rock crawling so much

I have a '90 K5 that I got when I graduated high school in '92. It is in pristine condition and I have no intention of making it a wheeler. The most is sees is some mud during hunting season but that's it. I use it to pull my boat and just drive from time to time and on weekends (company provides me a DD). I have 3" lift and 33's but mostly cuz I think it looks good. I want to be able to take the wife and boat on a 2 hour trip while running the A/C, CD, and cruise control and have a nice quiet comfy ride. Don't want to feel like I've been beaten when I get there.
