ReTonkulous

Utlilmaster P30
I’m sure it’s low on the priority list , tank is too small any way. Time for complete new fuel system.

I think the real question now is will the truck be a keeper or was it mostly a Power Tour project?

I think a bigger tank with an in-tank fuel pump feeling any fuel injection system.

This truck should be turn-key easy start and reliable as any modern car. I love q-jets but that garbage needs to go. It’s not worth screwing around with an antique fuel system.

Once installed start hitting the cruise nights and venturing a little further out each time.

But I’m not saying anything Wade doesn’t already know.

P30’s got fuel injection the same time the trucks did. So a tank from a ‘87 P30 and up would have an in tank pump. The ‘96 and later would have the higher pressure pump. That setup carried into the Workhorse versions. The step van version tank would be smaller than the rv version. I don’t think a 75 or 100 gallon rv tank would fit on a step van setup.

But he does have that wide open bed to put one on!

I think we know what is wrong now.

Started out with the plugged filter, then the tank sock plugging up.

The spare fuel pump I took with me flows a small amount fuel. Not enough to run the truck.

Second new pump I bought at vautozone pushes fuel unless you restrict it the tiniest bit. You could put your finger over it without any spray at all. Would not keep the carb full on the bench. Accelerator pump would run it dry on the bench.

Went through the carb again because we were working in a cool and comfortable environment. Put it back on the truck. Hooked the 5 gallon tank to the mechanical pump. Cranked the engine and watched the gas roll out of the hose. Sprays if you put your finger over it. Hooked the line to the carb. Fired up and ran like it should. I could put some RPM in the engine while in gear. Would not do that.

So the take away.
Tank is fubar right now.
Mechanical pump is good still.
First new fuel pump was bad.
Second electric pump did not have enough pressure to feed. Claimed to be 8psi. Nope.

Tank will come out tomorrow.

the electrics were the bedrock pump with 5/16" inlet and out let ? If so I haven't had good luck with those. Holley red label pump has been running good for over a year, but that pump needs a regulator.

I’ve used the Holley mighty mite pumps with good luck, and some don’t need a regulator….there are a lot of junk pumps on the market nowadays.
