i have found about 2-3 of these, i guess there not as popular as the gm d60s but my question is, will it work if i got one and flipped it upside down and put spring perches on the opposite side of the axle? what would be some problems with running it upside down?

no. when you put power to it, the front axle would want to go the opposite way that you wanted it to. put it in a forward gear, the rear axle moves forward, and the front axle would try to move backwards.

Is this the front axle? Year?

78', 79' front ford d60 are a very sought after axle. Other years not so much.

There are many reasons you can't flip the axle over.. here are two.

1# I believe you would have an oiling problem.
2# Your king pin knuckle would be upside down, it's not designed to work upside down...

If you can get them(FRONTS) or one for a good price they would make good trading stock for a G.M. or even a dodge D60.

With some work you can even swap a Ford 78' or 79' d60 into a chevy truck. I've got one in mine and there are a few others here that do also.

Money, lots of money ;)

I went the way of a doubler. Chevy 203 gear box behind my th350 with a Ford 205 t-case behind the 203.

I believe you can use a newer chevy tcase also  . But it needs to be drivers side drop what ever it is and it needs to be able to mate to your trans.

Yep, you can use an NP241 Drivers drop transfercase. It'll bolt up in place of a 208 provided you have the right spline count. Not sure what all spline counts they come with. For sure 32 spline in the one tons. Maybe a 27 spline as well. Of course theres always the small things that have to be changed as well like, shifter mods or switch and all the other details.

Forgot about the little things... :wink1:

I was drawn away by sweet corn and sirloin :deal:

K10ANDYKHAMANIC recently put one in his - you guessed it - K10. Ford did one thing right - the front axle. That's the best stock axle ever made. May i have one?

is there a way to turn my stock 208 transfer case around to use a drivers side drop axle?

I believe if you attempted to turn your t case upside down you'd end up with severe oiling problems and it will be short lived. Not to mention shifters would be a night mare.

If your really interested in doing this PM me. I have a NP241 drivers drop that I was going to use in mine. It's 32 spline. Complete with factory shifter.

don't try to flip anything over and expect it to run correctly.

Stomper: Truck is looking good. I'm planning the same thing on my 72 :D

Who's tripple stick did you use?

shhhhhhhh...... You're going to blow my cover

Just hackin' on ya!

In all honesty if you haven't seen stompers truck in Person you are missing out. Attention paid to every detail.

If it continues along those lines Stomper, Maybe we won't let you wheel it! :D

I don't intend to wheel it, except at the mall. High school chicks dig big trucks :wink1:
