Hey guys so I guess here goes, my first build thread hopefully with more to come. I havent bought a membership yet so I'm guessing thats why it tells me I cant add attachments/pics yet?
But anyway the story all starts out with a Dodge diesel.

About a year after I graduated and started making some decent money I found a good deal on a 2000 dodge 2500 with a 24v and nv4500 the truck was far from perfect but was in overall good shape and the price was right, it was my dd/ tow rig for about 2.5 years it did what I wanted it to, but the maintence and repairs and mods were staring to get costly and I decided that it would free up some good money that I could put forth for the my first house so I decided screw it.

I convinced the ol lady that no more than we really pull these days that a diesel just really wasnt justifyable for us anymore and that a square body crew cab dually 4x4 truck would be perfect for us.
She wasn't too hot on the idea of getting rid of the Dodge for a truck 20yrs older but I pretty much told her too bad haha. I was adamant about it being a 454/465/205 truck.
So we decided to sell the dodge pay off the note and start looking for one.
Before I could get the Dodge sold I found the perfect truck a super clean 83 it was everthing I wanted and then some for what i thought was a fair price ($3500).
I called the guy we looked at it and we were both happy it had new tires a new clutch fairly fresh paint a clean motor and interior was in great shape, I explained to the guy my situation but I told him I would some how find a way to pull the money out of my a** if I needed, we agreed on a price and I couldnt have been happier, but i decided to ask if he would be interested in a partial trade on my 1980 swb he dicided he would like to get it for his daughter and we agreed that we had a deal but he had to run it by the wife and he would get back to me asap I told him at that time that if she decided that it wasnt a good idea that I would gladly pay him the cash ammount we first agreed on because I wansnt gonna miss out on this deal.
Heres where the trouble began I didnt hear back from him and he wouldnt answer my calls or texts....how frustrating to blown off on one of your dream trucks that was within reach.
So after about 2 weeks of holding on to hope I gave up and decided to look for another one.
I guess the nice part about the wait was it gave me time to get rid of the Dodge. The problem was I couldnt find another one that was within about 500 miles that would fit the bill and the money slowly ended up getting spent taking care of other things, so before the cash was gone I talked the wife to be in to letting me buy one that needed work and just build my dream truck.
so i started asking and looking around and found that a guy i knew had one a 86 ccdrw 4x4 gmc payed $1300 for it with no tranny had a turbo 400 but not a problem wanted the sm465 and had one to swap in anyway about the only reason I payed that much was because of the straight body and 4x4 the only real body damage that it has is right on the bottom rear corners of the bed are rolled in a bit and rear bumper is tweaked (my guess is they backed in to something or small rear end collision). so i got it home and started buying new parts for it
Wish i had taken more pictures and started this sooner but just joined yesterday so bare with me. So far i pulled the 454 and freshened things up (new gaskets, seals, paint, acc.s, hoses, and rebuilt the qjet) i felt like i was taking a bit of a gamble on it because the guy i bought it from really had no idea about it he told me it ran but leaked oil (which was painfully obvious the frame, dana 60, and underside of the cab was and partially still is covered but no worries good rust gaurd if u ask me :D) but when I pulled the intake it was super clean inside the frost plugs were pretty shiny yet and it had a double roller timing chain in it so I said why not.
It was between putting the work and new stuff on this one or on the motor in my donor truck that i pulled the trans and t-case out of. So far im happy with my decision the motor sounds strong and makes great oil pressure. ive also intalled the pedals and sm465 the truck out of the truck and back in because i put the darn throwout bearing in backwards :doah:,
transmission fell of the jack from about 4ft. thought everthing was ok but upon closer inspection revealed a busted tailshaft housing on the slipyoke 205 from my donor was gonna just change the housing and shorten the rear drive line but couldnt find one so i decided to just dive right in and pull the fixed yoke off the t-case that was in the bed when i bought it, wanted to do it anyway just wasnt sure how involved it would be so it gave me just the movitation I needed and after a quick talk with a local trans guy decided to hell with it I was gonna do it (Thanks Red for the help)
so I got that done and everything back in the truck and now runs and moves under its own power :woot:feel like I got over a big hurdle on that one.
At this point im just working on getting some wiring gone through and figured out. Im thinking this may have been a tbi truck from all the extra electrical connectors under the hood that were not plugged in to anything? Would post pics but dont think I can/dont know how yet.:dunno: As soon I figure it out or buy in I will be posting pics. Hope every one is supportive of my revival as I will probably be asking opinons, questions, and advice.
Think thats about it for tonight but definatly more to come, I plan to go through the axles after i get all my wiring straightened out to a point that im happy with and the dash finished put back together. feel free to chime in guys have a good night.

P.S. sorry for the long ass post

First off, welcome...

Second, paragraphs are your friend.

Last, you can post pictures through a hosting site (like photobucket) and everybody can see them. If you attach them, only members can see. Also, I think you need 5 posts to be able to attach photos.

Tuff to read but sounds fun and sounds like your excited about it! Just go into your first post and hit the enter button aver 5 sentences or so just to make it a little easier to read.

I think it's 5 posts before you can post pics right? Either way, if you upload them to photobucket, you can then post themup here no matter what.

Once you get pics uploaded, click on on of the pics and off to the side or underneath the pic, there should be like 4 different lines of code. There is one that says IMG if you copy that, and paste it into your response here, your pic will show.

But anyway the story all starts out with a dodge diesel i know wrong forum right? but dont worry i think every one will like the way this story takes a turn.

One more thing occurs to me. This club is indeed biased toward certain types of vehicles. But nobody is going to gripe at you if you decide you wanna talk about non-Chevy rigs. You would still have readers if you decided to start a Cummins build thread. Even if it was still attached to the Dodge (:p: ). The members of this site discuss much broader interests than the vehicles that many of us have in common. So don't be afraid to hit the site up with whatever interests you may have. You'll find CK5 a respectful audience. :)

And you will also get to meet this sign:

:sign6:

if you don't get some pictures up! :haha:
