My mechanic is telling me that I should put the revolving shackles on my K5. He says they will improve my flex. Does anyone here have any experience with revolving shackles. I have found them for Jeeps and Suzukis but not for full sized trucks. Thanks for any information forth coming!

Search around a lil bit... A few guys have run them... General consensus = stay far, far away... Good for flex... bad for unloading on a downhill:eek1::doah:

Here is a good question, do you have a shackle flip? If not, then all a set of revolvers will do is lower your rig about 4+".

I'm trying to figure out your point, all I get when I click your link is:

Which is funny if that's how you meant it. :dunno:

Besides, Fred is over 60yrs old I think we could show a little respect and just answer his question.

They don't even make them for fullsize trucks, that's why you can't find them. I know of someone that talked to Terraflex directly and was told it was not a good idea for a fullsize truck, so they don't make them.

There is really only one good alternative IMO, orbit eyes. http://www.alcanspring.com/orbit-eye.htm You'd have to buy they entire spring, though.

Stallion85 has alternative design, but it's not safe for street driving. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1659157&postcount=74

I think you should do a shackle flip for more flex in the rear. Maybe even 56s.

Maybe next time I visit, I'll teach you the search function so you don't offend the locals again. :shame:

I was told by the manufacturer of the revolver shackles that they do not make them for fullsize trucks because they do not hold up to the weight.

They will let your suspension unload uncontrollably. you will be at the mercy of your shocks valving. there are better, more stable ways to achieve flex.

Do you already have a shackle flip?

:rotfl: You must have been typing the same time I was. He just has 4" blocks in the rear. I agree, shackle flip = more flex.

He's got a good mechanic, he's just a Jeep guy; not used to the extra 2000lbs and 2-4 more cylinders. :D

Shawn had them on his k5 for a short while. I think he did a review on them on off-road.com search potent rodent in reviews. Or shoot him a pm or better yet he will be with us at montrose....shhhhhh....

I'm done responding to these threads. search for my screen name and revolvers. I've answered this question 25 times... at least.

One of my buddies friends has a pair on his 1st Gen, not sure who makes them or if they're really for a fullsize application. If you want a good laugh, the guys over at High Country 4x4 were trying to talk him into putting a set on the front too:eek1:

Hmmmm, couldn't be they don't know anything about 4x4's unless it says Jeep on the hood:shame:

Yep thats the one!I think he hit the brakes going off a ledge the rear unloaded and ummmm they are no longer on his rig.

Whether you like them or not, he would NEED a shackle flip first. Revolvers will not work in tension. You guys seemed to gloss over my comment there, ha.

Revolvers only work on compression style shackles (shackle flip setup).

I could see that happen. I also read that off camber situations made something similar happen. I was reading on Pirate a guy prevented that by running a center limit strap that stopped axle travel right at the point the revolvers would open up.

Sled dog had a point though, you can't do it without installed a shackle flip anyways. So I say just do the flip and be happy with what you've got. Plus the benefit of loosing the rear blocks.
