RHD truck pics

I don't think I could ever get used to shifting a manual left handed. I assume the clutch pedal is still on the left. I'd like to see pics of the steering as well.

Crossover is so easy with the column on that side .

Think car box . Car boxes mount inside the frame on the drivers side in the US , so you just bolt a car box on the outside of the passenger frame , run a bent draglink to a drivers side arm and your done :D

Here is from his build post!

Ask and you shall receive.

it looks to me like it's the same box, but they put it outside the frame on an inside-out bracket thing ... eww. THAT'S gonna cause problems... and you can't exactly use the ORD brace, you know?

Actually all the problems with craked frames disappear with this outboard box. Its constructed on 3/8 plate and mitigates points loads on the chassis. Its an simple well engineered solution. My K20 has a frame mounted p/steer box and it flexes like a b%tch. Both K5's Ive owned had this mod and both frames are pristine still. I should mention that although this 79' has done little work my previous 73' had metal fatigue issues all over, body and frame, but the p/steer mount was not one of them. I would not fit a frame mounted RHD box. The turning circle is great. A bonus is the LHD boxes are almost free down here as they are about as useful as a c%ck flavoured lollipop in a RHD country!

Thats a weird way of doing it , when a car box would bolt right to the frame on the passenger side and can have a pitman clocked how you need it :dunno:

That does seem like an odd way to mount the steering box. :dunno:

It's kinda hard to see. Is that a right (I was gonna say passenger side :doah: ) drop front axle with a standard fore and aft draglink?

that does look to be a passenger side/rh diff front end w/ knuckle and steering arm on the right....is that custom done by the company that converted it to rhd or are they gm parts that we may could get part #'s to?

Its nearly dark here right now guys otherwise I'd run out and grab some detailed pics from my 78 K20 to answer the questions about steering set-ups, for the most part all the steering conversions I've seen follow the same formula and use similar components.

You'll have to wait 12 hours or so for them.

that's what i was thinking, if they had rhd knuckles w/steering arm on the right side, if we could get a part # for the RH knuckle and arm, it would make crossover steering easier!

Why bother ?

Price of the part , NOS somewhere , probably overseas sitting on a shelf , plus shipping would probably be a wash or greater than something like this :

Most of us pay half that or more for 30 year old stuff we need to spend money on drilling and tapping :doah:

i have a set of d44 flat top knuckles, just curious about it being a gm part, but i'm going 1 ton when it goes back together, already have the stuff, i stripped the srw k30 for all it was worth, windshield wiper system to the axles, blower motor, also its 465/205, brake proportion vave, the hydrobrake stuff, steering column and the gauge cluster and bezel b/c it has the little cubby hole(no ac) those seem to be hard to find themselves, even took the ashtray and glovebox...i think i got my $750 worth

Random question. In NZ (at least 8 years ago) you had to convert any LHD to RHD unless you bought it overseas as LHD and were importing it for your use only. Anything like that in Oz or is it RHD only? I think anyone who bought the vehicle from the original LHD owner had to convert it to RHD too...which kinda sucked.

Pretty much the same here, there are exceptions depending on the state your in as to when you have to make the conversion. I think now anything >30 years old is exempt from the conversion requirement.

I don't think I could ever get used to shifting a manual left handed.

It doesn't take to long to pick up, I drive LHD vehicles for work and using right or left hand for shifting is second nature to me.
