I'd first like to say "hello" to everyone on here as this is my first post. I'm usually just a lurker on the site............checking out all the great info, insight, and great vehicles.

I figured I'd post one of the projects I've been half heartedly working on for awhile. I have an 86 CC 1-ton I've been meaning to do something with for the last few years but normally it just sits on the back burner. I've spent the last few years toying with the notions........do I repaint it, do I convert it in to a shortbed, how much lift, yada, yada, yada. This vehicle was going to primarily be a hunting rig and as such I couldn't see spending a large amount of time and $$$$ on nice paint job. Having said that, I also have a buddy who owns a Rhino Lining dealership and would spray the CC for next to nothing. So I brought the old CC in for prep work a few months back and we spent the day spraying it.

Again, in an effort not to get roasted on this site, this is purely a hunting vehicle. Would I do this as an alternative to a paint job on a new truck? Of course not. Would I do this if I had to pay the public rate for Rhino Lining an ENTIRE truck? Of course not.

I've had it sprayed for a few months now and I must say that I rather enjoy it. I no longer worry about getting dents, scratches, dings, etc. It's very easy to take care of........in fact I haven't washed it since it was sprayed. As far as care goes......I go down and buy a can of the tire foam for less than $3. I can usually do the entire truck with one can.......spray it and let the dirt and grime just slide off. It actually makes it shine fairly decent. The majority of people don't even realize it's not paint until they get close.

My only regret is that I wish I would have pulled a couple small dents before having it sprayed. I initially figured that the Rhino would cover the dents and that the guy spraying it could just spray "a little more" in those areas. It somewhat worked the opposite of what I thought though. Oh well.

Any ways........I figured I'd pass on a few pic's. I'm not sure what the next stages are for this truck. I was going to re-do the interior, install a lift of some sort, bigger tires, etc. Then again, I have so much other stuff going on I may just try to sell it.

Pretty cool.
Good job on taking the time to remove, or mask off everything, rather then coatin the door handles and such.

Hey nice looking rig.... i thought about doing something like that to my k5 but just doing the bottom half of the truck.. I use mine for the same love to hunt and gets me where i am going

I personally like it, I would love to do the bottom side of my burb but to it would be a little heavy on the pockets. My only concern is fading over time making it look bad however if you keep it "shined" fading should be minimal. One thing I would recommend is stay away from the Tire foam, If possible get a "Teflon Based" shine material and your color will last longer and it will keep the Rhino moist. Armor-All and other similar based tire products actually wick moisture out of the material and it will start cracking eventually.

i actually herculined the whole bottom half of my k5. taped it off and laid it on there thick. also did it so it wasnt a super rough texture. i can get pictures if anyone is interested.

Welcome aboard. Sweet truck. Alot of Jeep guy's Rhino or Line-X their rigs like you did. I preferr Line-X to Rhino. I've had both and can hoestly say, I like the durability and texture of the Line-X the best. Just my .02

Nice.

I think you'll find most folks on here prefer flat rattle can paint jobs or something like yours to custom paint.

Any idea how much weight this added to the truck? Bet it's quieter now too?

I like it :waytogo: Now i think i must do this :doah: I need to weld in new cabcorners in my DD and figure i'll go from the trim down with it ;)

AJM- I don't exactly recall how many gallons of Rhino we sprayed on the CC. I'm thinking it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-12 gallons???? My buddy actually charged me based on the amount of material used and I remember doing the math and the amount of weight added was no different than an extra passenger in the vehicle. Not really a big deal.

MNorby- County 2 is the Cheyenne area (I live here in town)

WannaB- That looks nice!

just found that out, my G/F is from Cheyenne and we get down there a few times a year

I love the look of this. I want to do this to my 1990. Flat black paint job and rhino liner on the bottom like this. Awesome truck man
