I would say that unless you already have a locked and geared axle, it would be better to just get a complete axle out of a new rig. $250 just for adapters and then you have to find an axle to get all the parts off anyway. Unless you find a strangely good deal, the rotors, hubs, etc will likely run you another couple hundred I would think. At that point you could have saved the hassle of putting it together by just getting the complete axle.
The flip side is you would have to move the perches on the new style axle, so if you wanted to avoid that, the adapters would be a decent choice.
