rims and tires

Just looking to find the smallest diameter rim that will fit on a 14BFF with a disk brake conversion on it..

I was looking at 16" rims with a 4" back space and dont have anything to compare them to...

what do people have on their 14 bolts for rims and tires??? Pics?

It completely depends on how the wheel was made and how much backspacing but I have 15's on mine and didn't have to grind at all.

16's should clear no problem.

cool thanks,

I plan on having a deep backspace due to leaf spring clearance

i have 15" rims, 4.25 B/S, and 2" spacers. i could probably get away without the spacers, but the front needed spacers because of the dana 60, and me not wanting to grind the hell out of my calipers just yet.

I run american racing outlaw 2 on all my rigs 16"x 8" with I believe a 2.5" backspacing. I usually run either a 285/75/16 or a 265/75/16 on them. The 05 is the only one with rear disk though works well. I will try to post a pic tonight. All I have is 14 bff and never had a clearance issue. They move the tire out well from stock stance.

I've run 15" w/ I think it was 4.25 backspace with no issues. Typically your front axle will be the one to give you problems. You shouldn't have any issues with 16's though.

It would ve even more beneficial to run a 15" rim if i could but 16" if i have to. I only get one shot to get this right, since rims are a touchy thing on return policies...

The front will probably get a similar size rim (maybe an 1" larger andand inch thinner- 8 "jist or 9" instead of 10"" to help with clearances......id like 33" but may have to go to 31'2s for clearance

ordered my rear rims. some bart super trucker rims 15 x 10 with 3.5" back space...

thank god for return policies..if they dont fit i can return them..

i think these are gunna stickout a bit!!.....BOO YA!

Ill post pics when they arrive

Now not sure if I should use a street radial or some time of all terrain or mud terrain..

thoughts?

Well strike 1 on the firs set of trial and error on rims....

I am not sure how all of you are fitting 15" rims on a 14 bolt FF but I ordered 15 x 10 with a 3.5" backspace and it hit the caliper well before the rim was fully seated.

so gunna get an even wilder rim....16 x 10 with a 2.75" back space

How much can they safely take? Never ground calipers. Kinda makes me nervous

I know what you mean. I took almost an eighth off of mine. It really is up to your best discretion, though. If you are cutting off 1/4" chunks then something ain't right. Best way to see what is hitting is to spray the caliper with paint then put the wheel on, and grind whatever has the paint rubbed off

thats a good idea,

the only thing I would worry about is doing that and either ruining new rims from scratching them up

or grinding little by little and thinking its got enough and hitting the brakes and the caliper breaking under stress..

I guess its just one of those things "if they built it that thick, it must be for a reason" type thinking

The beauty of grinding and painting is you would only scratch the inside of the rim on the back side, which almost no one sees. I personally used my 'spare' rim as a tester for my calipers.

As for the strength issue, the stock units are over engineered it seems, I've never seen a failure due to grinding, but I have fairly limited experience with that. Since brakes are front-biased, I would assume even less force would be put on rear calipers.

That makes sense on the bias, being probably close to a 70/30 front to rear bias. .. ill see what happens tomorrow and post results..

Any ideas for a good tire? Mostly runs the street. Not much offroad except winter mainly

I still have some grinding to do.. took alot off but the rims still just hit a small amount..

got to figure out something that takes more material off them my 3M roloc disks..

too bad I sold my angle grinder :doah:
