I've got a leg to my travel trailer awing that broke a bracket. I have a replacement bracket and a the rivet that holds it on.

My question, how do rivet something that uses a 1/4 rivet at home? I have a press but not sure if it would just mash down the rivet.

Any ideas?

I took a stick weld chipping hammer and flared out the rivet top once it was in. Then I use progressively larger transfer punches to flare it some more. Then just tossed it in the press and smash down the outer rim. All good.

Renting squeezer would be the best answer. But you press would work, just need something to act as a set.

On my camper, when the awning folded up the nut interfered with another part. I was lucky enough to find a stainless steel sex bolt with truss heads that would fit.

Would it be easier to use a bolt w/ a lock nut?

Yeah, there wasn't enough room to through bolt it.

So far it's holding up. I look at it every time I open the awing up.
