RJF's 30' gooseneck trailer build thread. (pictures added)

I wasn't talking about that size of tire. I was talking about running a single tire that is rated to carry the weight of the doubles. Like the big rigs. Bud.

Trailer looks awesome man. That red triple axles looks sweet too, did you build it?

Right, that is what a SS is. And the only one I know available is a 22.5" for semis. I am not aware of a 16" rim and tire less than 29" tall that has a load rating of 5000lbs or better.

Yes.

So yeah.... like 3 years later I finally have some time to get back onto this project. I got busy and ran out of time, wound up and bought a newer backhoe and basically got this trailer for nearly free. This covered getting most of my stuff that is small enough to haul, around where it needed to go.

Fast forward to today, and I am finally getting this trailer finished. I built a headache rack that incorporates a winch mount. I have always wanted a trailer with a winch. I went with the Super Winch because I don't plan to use it often at all, but when I do have something that is broke down and won't load on it's own, this will come in handy. If I was going to use it all the time, I probably would have gone with a Warn. Not much left as far as steel work, need to build the ramps, install a tool box, drill out for lights and thats it. I will start paint in 2 days. This should be done some time next week.

Oh, last pic is a chain binder tie down, it retracts into the deck. I like it.

Here is the winch mount.

Finally getting somewhere with this project. I pulled it down the road for the first time, since I had to move it to my other yard for paint work. It tracks strait as an arrow.

Primered up and one coat of red. What a PITA sliding around on my back getting the underside of all the crossmembers/torque tube/frame/susp/axles painted.

Tomorrow I will lay on another coat of red to finish paint work. I am using Sherwin Williams marine coatings hi solids urethane. Been happy with that paint line for industrial/equipment.

Holy crap. I remember reading this thread when it was new.

Looking good glad you're getting it wrapped up.

Now we're getting somewhere. Paint is done and now wiring is done. 9.5K superwinch up front, deep cycle battery, Maxxim 3/4" LED clear lense lights, and 2x4 maxxim clear lense ovals at the rear. Yes... I'm missing a rear light. If anyone happens to find it laying around, let me know, I'm looking for it. :doah:

The deck is in and completed. Only thing left to do now is build the ramps and apparently brakes. They are shot, especially the magnets. Just ordered 4 new backing plates, seals, and front oil caps. $800.:doah:

bummer about the brakes. Trailer looks great though.
I picked up this pair of axles about 10 years ago off a guy from Craigslist. I think I paid $400 for the pair, springs included. I'm at $1200 now with the complete brake job, not too worried about the wheel bearings, they look good and I won't be running this trailer down the road constantly. A new set of Dexter tandem duals, ready to bolt in with springs are nearly $3K for a pair. I'm still way ahead.

Glad to say this project is finally done. Finally had time to build the ramps for it.

In this one I pulled on my K30 with the winch and it did just fine. K30 weighs about 8.500lbs. I figure if I use a snatch block and double up the cable I can winch on a wounded tractor up to about 15K.

What dimensions did you use for the gooseneck? Did you just wing the angles or use another trailer for comparison?

Pulled it across my scale today and it weighs #6640

Better pics of the ramps. Took me forever to make them, getting the dimensions just right that they sat flat and level with the deck when folded up, and at the same time were off the ground by 1.5" when folded down.
