Rock Slider idea?!?

Cool.

Im making SLOOOOOOOOOOOO progress. Fab'n aint easy. lol.

Now I know why most of the rocksliders go UNDER the pinch weld, less customizing.

Ive sectioned the pinch weld. Part of the problem is the body mount. They arent exactly flat, so when the plates get tightened down individually, they want to move around on me to conform the shape of the body mount. I may have to tie the plates together with a welded plate on the back, This was one thing I was going to do anyways.

I think ive got the plates figured out but when I went to notch/cut the rock slider itself, I misjudged my measuring and it now cost me $20bux for another piece of steel, unless the fab shop can fill in a 1/2" gap in metal. LoL..But Ill just get another piece. The closer I can get the notches to fit the L brackets the better and stronger.

Once done, I think this will be a trick piece for sure. The L brackets will be integrated into the rock sliders and go thru the pinch welds.

Yeah one thing I noticed with mine bolted to the body mounts and sandwiching them is over time they loosen and eventually you begin to crush the rib there as you continue to tighten them. Adding the plate in the back will prevent you from being able to tighten them up if the holes wallow out at all I would think.

I ran a single piece of .180 wall 2x2 straight back to my frame in the center of the rocker and have had no problems since. You can see it in the muddy pic above.

Yea, I see what your saying about boxing the L brackets. One idea I had was to put a thick hollow slug up in the "rib" this would basically be a spacer. But getting up in the rib would require some modifying of the rib itself as it tapers down pretty small at the bottom of the pinch weld (yes im getting real knowledgeable with my truck during this lil project, lol)

Phase II of my rock slider project will be to run 1 or 2 bars back to the frame if possible. This will keep the rock slider from bending down or up, hopefully.

Ive got a couple ideas for this, but have to get Phase 1 complete first. lol.

This is as far as I've gotten, figure I'll get out the new jack stands and put the tubes on them once it breaks 50 outside. Really tough doing this kind of **** outside! Each tube is 90" long, but I also have a burban, so I am going from wheel well to wheel well. My wife and my youngest daughter (youngest of 6) want me to notch to make a step like yours, mt I just haven't gotten to the point where I am sold on one certain style. Both of the rails are in the pic, just wanted to show a close up of the detail of the end

I should have pics of my cut brackets and slider tomorrow. Im almost finished with fab work on the pass. side. And then its off to start all over on the driver side, but lots of lessons learned from 3 days of working on this. lol

Once its all fabbed up, ill take it to the 4x4 shop for final fit and welding and then ill bring it home and clean it up and paint it.

So far its looking really cool.
