Rock Sliders

Mine are like the other ones that were previously posted.

Bottoms of the doors need to be cut a little, as well as the front fender

Welded straight to the frame

If really all you care is just having sliders, than yeah you could get away with just attaching to body. But if you have any plans for a cage later on, it would probably be worth attaching to the frame in some fashion. Because you will find as you do a cage that those sliders and the connecting points to the frame can serve as a great spot to connect the cage, sliders, and frame all together and strengthen everything up.

I built my own sliders and pretty much just copied the design of DIY4x's. Even down to the tabs that go up to the body supports which I build myself. Buy I still had tubes that extended to the frame knowing I would probably connect them all together one day when I did a cage (which you have seen in my build thread :D).

Just throwing a different perspective out there.

saw this truck for sale on CL and saved the pics since I hadn't seen anything like it before. Looks very similar to what you want to do.

My set up is very similar to the above pictures, with the exception of not being tied into the frame. I ran a combination of angle and square tube braces that tie back into the body. I would say mine are at, or slightly above, that height in regards to cutting out the rockers. I did trim the doors to fit. I would have went up higher on the rockers but then you get into modifying the bottom door hinge location and you run out of room to fully lower the window. Here is the best picture I have.

I guess it depends on how you're doing the cage though. Obviously if you're mounting to the chassis the sliders need to be tied to the frame to make them a connection point.

But some people do internal cages that are just staked to the floor for safety.

True, I guess after just going through the process of building a cage, it's a little scary to me to build a cage and just have it plated to the floor. I know most try and make those points be around a body mount or something like that to add regidity, but still the floor is such thin metal I wouldn't trust just having a cage plated the the floor to do much for you. And adding connecting points back to the frame on the sliders isn't really that hard, if you ask me. Just seems like too good of an idea and not too hard to accomplish to not mention it :thumb:

O dont get me wrong. You're missing out on half the benefits of the cage if you're not tied to the frame. However you have to remember if you're on your lid, the floor dont really mean much.

I will be tying to the frame via slider and cage. It seems like the smart and right thing to do. I don't want to cut any corners. I have plenty of tubing to make sure that happens.
