Rocksliders

whats this sleep you speak of ?lol

i like the way you tied in the supports MEK5- very beefy:D

i just want to get rid of the rockers b/c like almost everyone else here they're rusted through and i want to be able to open the door if i drop it on a rock.
we started work on my rig at like 10:30 at nite down in phoenix the night before i left to drive home, hoping to be done by 2 am so i could sleep a few winks before heading to the grand canyon. we didn't get done till 7 am! i went back to my parents house, slept for an hour, ate breakfast and drove to the grand canyon - taking a 15 minute nap along the way. :D suck! i would do it over again in a heartbeat if i had to just so i could get those sliders on there tho!

I did not take to many pictures of the floor supports last summer when I was doing the sliders but I will take some more when I get a chance.
They really beef up the floor under the seat where it needs it and I have plans to reshape the floor later for a clocked flat LoMax and those supports will act as a solid platform for mounting some framework.
Also you could make some seat mounts out of tube like used with a cage but put flanges on them and have them thread into the floor supports!

Even if you mount it to the frame, it will still flex up and hit the body so its best if you do both to keep the slider from impacting the body.

That's why I tied mine together with a brace. Otherwise, I agree, the frames are just too thin to support the weight.

Took some more pictures yesterday but they did not come out that good.

Is everyone using a mig welder to weld up their sliders? I have an arc welder and think it would be a little much for the slider to sheetmetal welding. I could probably do the slider support to frame welding with my arc. I haven't really played around with it, but I know I have a hard time welding some 1/8 steel diamond plate with out it melting everywhere. Sorry to ramble on just curious.

P.S. Everyone's sliders look really good and hopefully this summer I can get mine on.

You will want to choose one way or the other to attach sliders. Either to the body or to the frame but not both. The body and frame flex indepedently of each other and if you attach to both you will tear one or the other up. That is why there are rubber body mounts so there is give between the body and frame so they don't tear each other up.

If you are going to do integrated sliders then only attach to the body. If you are going to do below the rocker sliders then pick one way or the other to mount them.

If for some reason you decide you have to mount to both make sure you use a bushing on the frame connection so there will be some give and the body and frame won't try and rip each other apart as much.

Harley, if i waas to mount to both what type of bushing do u thing i could use, i've thought about using a spring bushing maybe, could that work?

I'll probably mount to the frame so I can use my arc welder. Mig welder would be nice for finer welding. I might borrow MEK5's design looks good to me. Does anyone put metal over the supports to keep stuff from catching on them and making it easier to slide over things? Or is it an issue?

Edit: Bolt to the frame or weld to the frame?

Honestly I would if possible mount them to the body. If you are set on the frame then I would weld them to the frame. The bolt mounts aren't as sturdy as a good weld. Also if you do frame mount put mounts in different planes and support everything as best possible.

Also be careful welding on the passenger framerail. Your fuel lines are on the other side.

If you decide to do both body and frame mounts then yes a poly spring bushing is a good idea for cheap and easy mounting. My buddy Matt (az-k5) mounte many parts of his cage to the frame using spring bushings.

If you do decide to add a flat plate on the bottom to cover the supports use 1/8" plate if you can get many good solid welds. This will help keep it as light as possible and still provide some good protection.

If you weld to the frame your asking for problems if it isn't done correctly. You had better talk to a welder experienced with frame welding before jumping the gun. There are some very important do's and don'ts I don't have enough time to go into right now.

Those things are welded everywhere,I think I used 3lbs of wire between the sliders and bodywork!

That looks awesome! I am in the process of doing my K5 I was wondering if you could send some more detailed pictures and all the materials you used? I love how your came out and would like to do the same!

Only Pic of mine right now got them From Blazen Off Road Love em and about to Weld them in as they are Bolted in right now. Sorry only Pic I have right now of them as I just Cleaned my Computer out.

Thamk you or the pictures! Does anyone else have some any help is appreciated.

Mine are DPI and they are not tied to the frame. Not the best pick. The rig came down hard on a rock after I dropped off a ledge. The slider did its job.

These are the ones I have http://www.dpalms.com/dpi/images/RockWhores.htm. I picked them up from the classified section.

That looks awesome! Do you have pictures of underneath on how you tied and welded it all in. thank you guys for the help and ideas all these rock!

easy ones first... no, i didn't cut the doors, the sliders run right underneath them....

the green is zinc chromate.... the best raw metal, self-etching primer you can run other than the 2 part version of the same....

I'll have to hunt ya down some underside pics tonight, or I'll snap some.... I'm on lunch right now... to be fair, and forewarned, my setup is FAR FAR from stock.. the sliders are hard mounted to my custom cab support system and floor, so it's a far cry different than putting these in a stock app...
