Ok new problem. My speedometer will not work. I have replaced the speedo cables to see if the werent lubed and sticking or broke. Nope, they are fine. The gauge its self is fine(pretty sure, ne way to check besides visual?). The cable off gauge was replaced and the one from the tach down to the diff. The thing that the second cable to the diff connects to looks fine. Is it that or my diff?? Thanks ahead of time

Since this vehicle has cruise control (i can see the vacuum pod in one of the pics) and judging from the year i'm pretty sure your cruise uses a transducer on the driverside fenderwell. The cable from the speedo goes to a box (transducer) on the fenderwell, then there's another cable that goes from there down to the t-case, am i correct? If so those transducer boxes do go bad and it might be time for a new one. The vacuum and electrical portion of that box are only for the cruise control itself.
i just went an looked. i see the vac's going to the firewall then heading down towards the tranny or back of the block. so whatever the vac's are connected to might be bad? To be honest I didnt thing it had cruise control?? How does it work? I would never use it just kinda crazy because I see no controls.

Ok, that is the transducer. You said you replaced a speedo cable but which one did you replace? If you only replaced one then remove the other and check to make sure it isn't broken. If you don't use the cruis control you could just buy a cable for no cruise and it will go directly from the speedo to the t-case and completely bypass the transducer for the cruise control.
O sweet!!!! Ya I will never be using cruise control on the beast. I didnt know I could just bypass it. I replaced the lower speedo and I pulled the upper from the back of the speedometer and off the transducer. I pulled on it a lil to see it if was broke in half or anything and it was fine. the core seemed pretty good. The lower was broke in half thou. So thats why I thought it was a simple fix. If I do bypass the transducer and it still doesnt work, what else could it be? I am just thinking ahead. Thank you. You have given me the most advice yet!!!
Those transducers when they go bad can break the cable going to the t-case. Since you don't plan on using cruise control there is actually alot of pieces that you can remove. The vacuum pod which the vacuum hose from the transducer goes to can be removed along with the hose that leads to the brake pedal switch, the switch itself as it is separate from the brake light switch (usually anyways) and all of the wiring between the transducer and into the truck to the switch on the steering coulmn (the switch is in the end of the blinker arm (it's just a push button).
Deal! I looked at that ugly lil box(transducer) and I am kind of upset that it is stopping me lol. I had a problem today. I gunned it right after turning to catch up with traffic and the truck halted the killed its self?? Fuel or carb? Also, does anyone know the difference in the fender frame for a 78 and 82? I love my round headlights and do not want to change them out. But no salvage yards have 76 to 79's that dont have completely rusted out fenders. I found an 82 that is soooooo perfect its unreal. The problem is I am not to good with the radiator support structure design and headlight design. Is it flexible enough to mod it to my liking?? If anyone is in CO you should check out U-pull&pay. Pretty cool place. Only a few oldies but they get trucks daily!!!!
