My brother came to visit me this week. He has a 1995 Full size Bronco. It's a four hour drive and on the trip his brake pad broke and ground up his rotor. Well, sure, I'll help. Well, it ends up he's got ABS. Also, he has to totally remove his lockout hubs to get his rotor off.:eek1: Well, then his hub wouldn't come off his rotor because the ABS tone thing would need to be pressed off. He lives on the beach so all of this has a pretty good coat of surface rust.:doah: We did finally get all of it finished but he was late getting back home. It did make me thankful for my Chevy wheel setup. Change rotor? No problem. Remove wheel, take rotor off, put new rotor on and put wheel back on.

So I now how another reason to love my Moira.:D

What chevy front ends do you not need to remove the hubs?

On most Axles i have seen you have to remove the lock-outs, pull the Hub/rotor assembly off. Then press/beat the wheelstuds out to take the rotor off the hub. place new rotor on hub, press/beat wheel studs back on. Re-pack bearings, place assembly back on spindle, tq the two washers and do the little 1/4 turn back off, re-assemble the lock-out and Then youa re done:haha:

I dont know what newer trucks are like, but for all the 1/2 ton front axles that i have done, this was the method.

I wonder what my 96' tahoe's IFS front end is like, i cant remember what it took to replace the rotors on that?

I am guessing he has a later model GM as they do not have lockout hubs to remove.

Nice...i guess i have never changed the rotors on my 96' Tahoe after all:thinking::thinking::thinking:
Thinking now that i might want to get around to that after all the years i have owned it:doah:

Any 10 bolt or D44 Ive ever seen, you have to remove the lockouts and take the whole hub/rotor assy off to remove the rotors.

The 88+ IFS trucks have the rotor that just slides on.

maybe it's the auto locking hubs I've dealt with then. Never had to change out anyone else's. hmmm

I was about to ask. I know mine were a PITA like that. I don't remember backing off the out nut 1/4 of a turn though. Hmmm.....
