rubber gaskets

Hey I have a problem with my tranny to t-case seal leaking ! I have replaced it twice and it still leaks #?":>^%& my dad says use RTV on it ( the rubber seal ) Is this a good Idea? I have never used it on rubber gaskets before

You mention rubber, are you talking about a gasket that seals the adapter to the transmission or t-case, or one of the metal clad lip seals used to keep fluids from swapping between the two?

man i work at a tranny shop and on every 4wd even if it has seals on the trans and transfer case i still put silicone. the seal kits don't even come with a gasket so yeah scrape off the gasket and put silicone on no gasket needed. just make sure that you have gotten all the old gasket off. also make sure you get silicone on the contact area the transfer case does'nt have much. good luck

i have found that the rubber gaskets need 100% dry seal on both sides to seal best.

and some newer valve cover gaskets cant have sealent on them. as thay are made to swell with oil on them to seal the best. rtv/silicone on them will make them no good.

Thats what I was thinking thats why I asked ! but that isint working and that t-case isnt easy to pull and try again and again

Be careful, I have heard, not sure though, that rtv can be very bad for auto trannys.

yes rtv can be bad for auto trannys. If you use alot, there will be a ton of rtv coming out inside and it can clog up the valve body and such so just don't over do it and you'll be fine!
