Rubicon July 2023

Count me in as long as it is a two, preferably three day, trip. Doing it in one day is not my idea of a fun time. I am not much farther away then @skunked . I live about 20 miles away from Fordyce, that trail is more extreme than the Rubicon. If you do Fordyce make sure you have rock sliders and accept the fact body by Fordyce is highly likely. Although, they did clean up parts of the trail this last year from what I understand to make it easier for Placer County Sheriff to access on their Polaris Razors.

So more discussion on the 2 days or 3 days on the trail. What is the norm?

Is it normally run east to west?

So right now I'm thinking June, maybe mid to late month. Starting the trail on a Tuesday I think. It will be a 2 day drive for us each way to get to the area.

2 nights on the trail is the norm. Going east toward Tahoe is also the normal flow of traffic. Cadillac Hill is better going up than down.

The date will have to be a little flexible, as Skunked mentioned the trail was closed I believe a good part of June because of our winter.

For now having a general time frame is good enough. Sounds like maybe we should be thinking more towards the end of June then.

Definitely interested in a Rubicon trip always wanted to go

For those of you that know the trail, am I good to go with my blazer? I've got lockers, but no cage and I prefer to keep my body the way it is if possible. I could make sure I have sliders by that point.

It's a trail I've always wanted to do, but I don't want to hold up the group if my rig isn't up to it.

Possible bumper scuff here or there (if you're not careful) and I would recommend sliders. Other than that you'll be fine.

Sleep at Loon Lake, morning start, sleep at Buck Island, morning start, finish at Tahoe with enough time to get dinner and a hotel. Or stay another day on the trail and swim/fish at the lakes etc. Also, bug spray, stupid amount of mosquitoes on the trail. morning and night

yes, sliders and more bumper protection that wraps around. The best place to be in the group @ashman is back, so you can watch all the lines. I left with the tiniest scratch on my wheel well opening lip. My sliders and bumper corners took a beating. (I also didn't hold back on anything, but there are boulders in the middle of the trail that need finessing around that will take out a rocker or fender if not careful)

Fordyce I don't know, but would love to do.
Yes, W to E is the normal way. It is a 2 hour drive from Tahoe back to Loon Lake. I slept near Tahoe and drove back to the tow rig next morning.

I would LOVE to do the trail backwards, cause there are areas that would be SOOOO much harder :D
If anyone would like to do it backwards, camp at Buck Island with the group going East, finish the trail and start Fordyce.... that sounds awesome.

Stock jeeps do it every year at the jeepers jamboree.....
yep, @ like...what....3' wide

lol, you remember passing that Jeep and Toyota coming down whatever sluice that was. Dudes didn't want to move over farther even after I asked em. hahahaha Told them I was probably the narrowest in the group at 88". Dude was like "Fuuug, that's my wheelbase!" And then backed down to a wider section.
