Hi all- Finally found a fully removeable hardtop model (when I wasn't even looking). Been wanting one for years, lol. Came across a 72' with no engine for $700. and just recently found this site. Plenty of good information here.

My plans are to set it up as more of a all around/ hunting rig, but the guys I run with are mainly rock crawlers, so I'll have to take that into consideration.

Original tow hooks???

You could sell those and get half of your purchase price back! :yikes:

Seriously? Don't know what is original to the vehicle yet. A previous owner went snip and welder crazy with the engine bay and under carriage. Some pretty funky hack work has been done under there. Think it had a big block at one time, as they punched a couple holes in the firewall and it has 396 badges on it, lol.

Looks like they also pulled the rocker boxes and welded in some goofy stuff on the passenger side. Not sure what they were trying to accomplish.

One I clean up that mess, I get to practice on my welding. Pry go JYing tomorrow and hopefully get the patches I need for the firewall.

Post a better photo of the tow hooks if you want to know for sure....but yes, original tow hooks sell for stupid money.....should easily fetch $250/set and probably more.

If you checked old auctions on eBay you'd be amazed at what they've sold for.

I'll post some more pix tomorrow, but it is sitting exactly as I bought it, with the exception of the 33's. It also came with a spare top.

Really torn between getting it roadworthy before I repair any of the rust, since our club has a run the first week of June. Biggest problem is that the condition of the mechanicals are unknown. Technically, the only thing missing is the engine, which is no biggy, as I rebuilt a 350 for a neighbor and we never installed it. A few years later I bought his truck and got the engine and accessories with it.

Cool truck. I vote for getting it running before doing anything. If the tow hooks are the "extreme bend" style, you get even more points. ($$$) I actually like the looks of the normal bend style.

The hooks are "ram's horn" type with the last inch or so parallel with the ground and pointing straight out to the side.

Yep, those are the big dollar ones. Those should get you an entire aisle of beer at the mini-mart. :)

Or you could actually use them yourself. :)

The hacked job...

Hacked front wheelwells, an added battery box, punched firewall, and on the passenger side wheelwell it looks like they welded on a stove pipe...

Underneath, I have that chunk of blade and two foot long threaded rods in place of the torque box...

Plowing rig at one time?

Fresh engine- 350, edges smoothed, fresh internals and balancer, .030 over, with RV cam (originally built for my neighbor for towing).

Looks like you have your work cut out for you. Have a plan yet? And that engine needs to become Chevy Orange or Black real quick instead of ford blue, ha ha.

Have a tranny worked out for it yet? I know when i was looking TCI's were 1200 brand new and TQ converters were 250

So wrong Dave, lol. Thats actually GMC blue- It was painted to replace a 454 in my 3/4 ton. Kinda fitting, since that 350 came out of a Jimmy I helped part out.

I will rebuild the 400 somewhere along the line- Took a college course while stationed in Korea.

GMC blue is still wrong.... :deal:

I'm campaigning for Chevy orange as well. It's the right "look" for these early Blazers

Blue reminds me more of Pontiac for some reason.

Uh oh. I see a stoning in my future, lol. Well, we'll see, but might be orange overload. I've already decided on Rustoleum Orange for the exterior, with a tan interior.

Anyone else holding a rock for the "cardinal sin"? It would only be two spray cans away from a color change...
