Rumble Bee. (Getting cannibalized for the greater good)

As I look at this thing and start mentally adding up the $$ snowball, I start getting depressed almost lol. Damn hobbies. Only part that really sucks is that, just like my quads, I'll have to trailer it hrs from home to really have any fun with it :doah:

There's some mudding to be done close enough,,,,,

But who the hell likes that chit?. I'll have to go with what I got for a while though... Even that's 40 min away.

Oh, and I also figured out that my pretty, nearly new gas tank won't fit :doah:. So I guess that'll have to go up for sale... May help pay for steering mods:thinking:.

I did get the TREs and a few other things looked over.

TREs were good.

Looks like an oil leak from somewhere near the filter, or rear main.

Trans was leaking and I found that the rear cover/ adapter bolts were loose. Passenger side had a few I could see under the head.

I did end up finding weld slag and some weld balls in the front diff lube. Damage will have to ride till the front gets regeared and carrier replaced.

Hopefully today or tomorrow I'll get the other fender cut and get the lube filled in the front diff and trans.

Lol... Funny you say that. Because I couldn't sleep at all last night and was laying there for a long time trying to figure out the best place to flex it out :waytogo:

THIS... is your first and only “real” mistake in this build. Stop thinking! Lol

I'm trying to fire sale my 2015 silverado at a big loss just so I have the cash to actually build and play with it :). That's the type of thinking I'm doing really lol

Drivers fender cut, front diff full, added some but still low in the trans, got the license plate mounted, and driveshaft hooked back up.

It's ready to drive :waytogo:

Thursday after the shop gets appraised, I'll do just that :D. Hopefully it's still warm so I can get some mud on it at least. And I'm still trying to find a good flex spot that won't get me in trouble

Yeah I've been paper piecing some of it together. And I've come up with being able to do crossover and hydro assist for less than $400. I may go higher if I upgrade a few things in there, like my tie rod. But it won't be bad. I'd like to do it now because it can be done for less than $200. But I don't want to mess with this steering box , then do it all over again on the 2wd box I have when I do crossover.

Well it seen mud.... Not more than a splatter though.
It was just Kaz and me. And putting it in 4x sucks with no park brake..

In fact, with no park brake there isn't going to be any flex shots for a bit

Oh,, and yes turning sucks. But not because of the lack of hydro. It just doesn't like to turn even when at full lock :dunno:

We'll i HAD an order for $1000 in steel for this thing all lined up..... But I sort of bought another project instead lol:rolleyes:

Luckily I still have quite a bit of steel left over from an old build, so that should go a long way towards a good start on this. Rest will have to wait a while.

Maybe this weekend I can get the wife to ride with and get a few flex pics. I figured out a decent place to get a few.

With the shop purchase still going on, and house work starting back up, work on this will be hit and miss.

Lately I've been rebuilding my utility trailer so this took a back seat for a bit. It's unrelated but I'll throw a few pics of that in just to prove I haven't been sitting on my azz lol.

After taking the sides and wheels off.

Stripped.... Then sanded, new tongue, and new spring brackets in the right place this time. Last ones had the axle center an inch ahead of dead center. It's a 60/40 split now

After that's finished I'll get to the bender stand and air over hydraulic conversion. Can't start the cage hoops till that's done lol

Finally took it through some mud... Our nephew wanted a ride in the big truck. It was the first time he'd ever seen it. Had to leave it in 2wd because NO it won't turn even a little in 4wd with that welded diff. In fact TC in 2x4, wheels turned all the way left, the drivers side wheel wouldn't even point left at full lock.

But anyway....

I decided to see how well this thing turned and such while locked in, in slick conditions. It drove through the snow in my yard like it was dry ground for one lol. Then actually didn't turn that bad when I turned to go around my block. Then it started running funny. So I went back down the alley, pulled into my yard, and it died :doah:..... Pretty sure it's out of gas lol.

Good thing it died where it did.... I really need a gas gauge.

Turning wasn't bad as long as I went slow and stayed off the gas. If I was just driving it normal I'd have ate curb.

Wipers are a MUST too lol

Tracks through our 10" of snow.

Well I fixed the ignition today so that I can start it with the key again. Then tried to go for a drive and found turning to be an issue once again.... Both hubs in the free position.

I messed with it a while and discovered it was in 4hi still. Which shouldn't have affected the steering if the hubs are free. I left it in 4 and jacked up each front wheel and gave them a spin. Drivers side was locked still. Which shoots down the idea someone suggested of leaving one unlocked to help steering lol.

I found that the hub broke some plastic inside and was allowing the spring to stay out all the time. I got it back together and driveable. I just can't lock that hub, Or it'll do that again.

I guess new hubs are in order and I NEED an open diff lol. I can get a locker of some sort later.
