Running 35x15.5 on 1/2 ton axels and 3.08 gears? Bad Idea?

I know this has kind of been discussed, but I am wondering is it bad in the long run to do this? Is it too much strain on my axels? I have 4" blocks in the back, is that a bad idea to run 35's with those?

I ran 38.5's on 10b's w/ 3.08's for a long time...

did you see the thread where I get to replace my transmisison now?

I say run it till it breaks, then replace it with a 14. If it is a daily driver you might want to round up a 14 to keep on hand for that day.

I wouldn't recommend it.
I ran on 16" wide 38.5's with 10b's and never broke anything in the axle...ever.
So its not a matter of running it until you break the axle shaft, carrier, w/e...its the fact that you'll cause damage to your tranny b/c you are putting so much strain on it by having incorrect gearing.

Great idea! The transmission shop guys LIVE for setups like that!

I ditched the 3.08's as soon as I got my Blazer - they were crap even with 33's. Move up to 4.11's or higher.

dude, after all the questions you have already asked and all the stuff on this site I'm sure you read, why would you ask a question like that? Didnt you have a thread that talked about gears, I think I remeber you even had a thread that mentioned good gears to go with 33's or 35's. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe im just tired. yeahh.

im runnin 38.5s with 10b 3.07s and first gear is all it will want to think about, does good in mud. slings sheot like crazy but even with a tranny cooler im on my 3rd th350 and went thru one 700r, 35s wont be as bad as my hawgs but u will eventually start replacin parts over time. tip= gear change is cheaper than a trans

haha it took you FOUR transmissions to figure that out? :doah:

If you ran 35's on the 3.08 and chipped some gear teeth wouldnt that possibly blow the whole rear end making you replace more then just the ring and pinion? Wouldnt it be wise to just change the ring and pinion to 4:10s now?

i ran 4" 35's and 3.08s and it sucked! granted i had a diesel but it was bad

i just replaced my 308 with 456. its a huge difference for the better. it drives like its supposed to now. with the 308 its like your constantly driving up a hill with a trailer, then when you actually go up a good hill, you almost cant make it. its really embarrasing actually when your huffin and puffin up a hill where people are honkin and passing you at 30. from 55! i drove 10K like that, my fluid was funky stuff when i changed it at 8K oh man, regear dude. at least 4.11 do your tranny a favor.

Would either of these setups be ok? If the TH400 is a better setup id like to know why?

33" tires TH350 tranny w/trans cooler 4:10 gears 1/2 tons axles

Or

33" tires TH400 tranny w/ trans cooler 4:10 gears 1/2 ton axles

I dont want to replace my th350 if I dont have to, my th350 is going out so I will have to rebuild it anyways. Should I get it rebuilt or just get a th400? Im also really wanting to stay away from switching axles as well.. If I go 35's and 4:10s is it a must I switch to 3/4 ton axles?

and you put the 456 in your 1/2 ton axles? what tranny do you have?

Ok so keep and rebuild my th350, install a trans cooler, keep my 1/2 ton axles and put 4:11s in. run 35's?

Im a little confused though, I had it set in my mind from replies I need to go with 4:10s.. Now you say 4:11s?

same thing...just rounded differently when the math is done...I believe its also a ford vs. gm thing...one ran "4.10's" and the other ran "4.11's"....either one.

Cool thats what ill do then..

Running this setup (th350/transcooler. 4:11 gears, 35" tires) am I still pressing my luck? if so what else should I think about? or will I be ok?

Few more neeb $$'s, what does FF mean? like 14ff? and what does open mean? as in your sig (open w/4:10s)
