Rust Belt Offroad's Latest Deal on K5 Bodies!

Just curious, how are VIN’s handled on these? Are there issues getting these titled and street driven?

Hi Muddy, thanks for reaching out. The vin would come from either an existing frame with title and matching vin or you can purchase a new frame and obtain builder's title. Every state is different so we always encourage customer's to check their state's BMV for more information.

Yeah in CA if you get builder vin you get a red tag which means you have to comply with that year's smog, that means you can only use the actual year engine.
You're better off getting a rotted body with a vin and use it.
In case I wasn't clear if you buy it in 2025 and build it, you need a 2025 engine and smog equipment

Thank you for your input! It's interesting how the laws vary state to state. Definitely worth checking with each state's BMV so there are no issues later on.

In this scenario ya need a cousin, brother-n-law, brother, uncle, nephew, best friend, sister’s boyfriend and/or father ( sometimes all these examples are the same person…) from DEEP in the southeast to do ya a solid favor and handle the paperwork for ya locally where usually the only requirement is if the vehicle has gotta windshield to be considered roadworthy and legal - just say’n, there’s benefits to liv’n down here; the family reunions and weddings are a little awkward though…

Oh it's easier to do it here with a vin swap. Do what you want if you have 75 or older

In Michigan they used to not even check the vehicle. You had the title, they registered it in your name.

I knew one guy who kept his grandfather’s pick up truck registered, even though it hadn’t been on the road in decades. Also knew another guy who after several years realized the title he had been given for his 70 something K5 wasn’t the correct one. MI didn’t care so long as they got their registration fees and a title.
