Rust Bucket headaches (Now Fixed)

Weird story. My brother lived in Kansas for a while and occasionally goes down to visit. 2 weeks ago I asked him when he was headed back down, and he said he had no plans, it would probably be in August. Ish. Maybe. I told him that I had sourced a subframe assembly and that it needed to be picked up in Topeka if he was heading that way in the near future. Today, 2 weeks later, I decided to call him again to see if plans had changed. He says "I already went to Kansas, I'm on my way back right now." Oh. Are you interested in picking up a part from Topeka for me? "Oh, yeah, you already told me about that." I resisted the urge to ask him why, if he remembered all the details of the assignment, he failed to think of this before he headed down, but I have no room to gripe. He's under no real obligation to help me with this anyways.

Turns out that he hadn't reached Topeka yet, and that he was willing to pick up the part. Family rocks! :saweet: Sometimes I wonder why I moved so far from them. :dunno: This was about 5pm, when I assume that folks are leaving work and going home. I gave Greg a call and he didn't answer. Except for a humorously-timed voicemail message (:wink1:). Several mishaps later I guess that the two of them managed to connect. 4.5 hours later I received "Spent the last don't-know-how-long talking to him. Fun guy! Got your frame thing. It looks spotless!" :haha:

And then I spent 32 minutes of my life on the phone talking him through how to navigate out of Topeka without using the Turnpike. :doah:
Sounds like Mr. Greg totally forgot to give him directions out of town. :doah:

On second thought, @GWeakland620, your directions are so confused that maybe he was better off without 'em. :haha: :rotfl:

Thanks for meeting up with him, even if you have extracted blackmail information.

I'm looking forward to getting the car back on the road.

And yes, @ktmoutfront, if this all goes down like I think it's going to, you won't hafta haul the part to Michigan just for me to haul it back West again. Thanks for the offer, it means a lot that parts can magically move from the non-salty areas up here to the rusty Northwoods.

I'm glad it all worked out. He's very smart. Almost too smart. But I did notice he left the wrong direction when we left. I just said to myself, "hmmm he must know of some place he wants to see"....

No, he just had no clue which way to go. :doah: :haha:

I'm not sure why he thought of asking me for navigational help. I personally would have asked the Topeka local. :dunno:

Hard to see, but the subframe is in. I hired it out to my buddy with a lift. Sounds like it wasn't the funnest job, I'm kinda glad I hired it out.

The downside of this is that I don't have any good pictures of it. But it's a nice improvement, and I'm happy with it.

It does look kinda odd to have one non-rusty part in a sea of rust.

There actually are a couple of rust spots on the new piece, but they're small enough to be invisible underneath the car.

Here is the original problem spot. I now have metal underneath that troublesome label. :thumb:

So I'm happy with it. It should have no problem outlasting the car.

Thanks to @Blue85 for pointing out that the subframe was removable. That helped a lot, I hadn't come to that conclusion yet.
Thanks to @GWeakland620 for sourcing the non-rustbelt part. Don't think I could have found one without your help. You rock!
Thanks to @ktmoutfront for being willing to pick up the part for me.

Car is still on the road, repair is holding well. Thanks again to all concerned!

Picture of it loaded down during a recent trip.
