Hi, I'm Calvin out of Va beach VA. I have an 86' blazer I'm restoring. I have a 383 stroker in an 81' that had been sitting for 25 years and just ran the other day. When I pulled it out of the woods, some cylinders had rust in them. Especially the number 8 cylinder which after it was ran still has pitting. The engine sounded pretty healthy when it ran. However I am concerned about the rust. If anyone has advice for what path I should take I would appreciate it.

If it's running ok and doesn't seem to have excessive blow by I would just run it.
Agreed - if wet compression test are acceptable and blow by is tolerable run it until the rings give up the ghost.
After that ya know what the answer is - rebuild time because everything else is just a band-aid.

You should also run as thick of an oil viscosity as you can stand to help seal that cylinder in the meantime.

Start planning and saving for a proper rebuild because it’s coming wether you want it or not - consider this borrowed time.

Ok thanks, that's what I'll do. I don't have the current budget to rebuild it, but I'll definitely start saving.
