Ryoken green zinc primer arrived

It's over...it's all gone. Got this in the email today:

Hello,

This message is to inform you that item

MOE-025472

is no longer available.

The replacement is Item MOE-025802.

The difference is the one is Zinc Phosphate. I have changed it in your order, but need to ok that with you before we process.

Please let me know.

Thank you

Why CANNOT put epoxy over the zinc chromate?

it does not stick well.. and there is no point to it... epoxy's only advantage over a urethane primer is it is a better self-etcher over raw steel... if your already etched with zinc chromate, ya might as well use a better "bodywork" sandable, primer like urethane... epoxy guys often overcoat their epoxy with urethane due to it's better sanding properties...

yeah, I figured as much... I haven't heard back on my order.... for bs parts with paint right over em, the phosphate is fine.. but I'm not sure how I feel about it on body panels, real bodywork....

Me either, that's not Moeller...but I just tried to order some of that brand...we'll see

huh, never saw that brand before....

You're about to.... :)

I ordered Moeller from that PBS Marine place in Florida. This is what they sent.

I've got 6 brand-new cans of Moeller in the garage too, so I think I've got enough to finish my build.

Paul will know for sure, I'm taking a stab at it....I think it may be the solvents used with the epoxy not liking the zinc chromate. Even some spray can paints are incompatible with the zinc chromate.

Well..... I checked the PBSBoatStore.com website and the image and description DEFINITELY says Moeller (the old style that I was used to getting).

The receipt that they sent me also says "Moeller" on it, but the cans say "MarPRO".

I found some references online that indicated that Moeller manufactures the MarPRO brand... but I'm not 100% sure how accurate that is. I would feel better knowing that it's the same stuff in a different looking can... but I don't have time right now to dig into this more deeply.

At the very least PBS Boat Store should NOT be selling Moeller and shipping MarPRO instead. False advertising for sure. :shame:

yeah, that's part of it Dave, the epoxy reducers tend to want to cringe the zinc underneath.... IF you can actually get it to overcoat decent without freakin, it usually doesn't stick well due to that...

I may price out a gallon kit of the zinc wash thru work and get a kit at some point.. should last a damn long time....

I still haven't received my 3 cans. Emailed them yesterday to see what's up.

yup, no word on my 4.. e-mail #2 in a day or so...

shit, guess I got lucky then!
good luck men!
