hey guys i have a 96 s10 2wd for my daily and my starter went a couple days ago. so i replaced it. and even with the ignition off the starter wants to crank anytime i connect the positive to the battery. i checked if it was a stuck solenoid and its fine. so i started trouble shooting. thinking its the ignition switch but even when i pull the starter relay it still cranks:doah:doesnt the order of the starter system go: ignition swtich---relay---starter? how could it crank if i pulled the relay? maybe the power and access. wire r shorted together somewhere?

OK, little fuzzy tonight, but doesn't that use the starter solenoid on top of the starter?

If so, the first thing to check is does the engine turn over when the starter comes on?

If the starter freewheels, then the battery cable is shorted to the input to the starter or the inside of the solenoid is messed up somehow.

If the starter engages the engine, then the solenoid is engaging to turn on the starter. Because the solenoid engages the starter when it turns it on.

That means, the trigger post on the solenoid is getting power from somewhere. Odds are the wires are touching at the solenoid.

u hit the nail on the head,it was the tab on the power wire that positions the cable so it doesn't twist while u tighten it,can't believe I didn't see it:doah:
