S10 v8 swap gas milage?

So I just realized that I hate driving my little 4banger S10 because lets face it, it goes from 0-60 in about 4 days. So I can get a V8 for pretty cheap and it might be worth it actually make it enjoyable driving that is if I can still get decent milage out of it.

What are you guys getting for milage with V8s in your S10s? When I'm not bombin around in it I can get 28mpg no problem. If I can still get upper teens than I think it would be worth it.

fwiw i just saw an episode on hptv that was on a mid 90s f body (i think thats right) camero and they were getting 20 + mpg...the s10 is gonna have a higher cog but the weight should be the same

I can't really help on the gas. Mine's set up for the 1/4 mile. It gets 7 MPG on the street.

I have an S10 blazer with a small block. Just dont know what it gets for gas mileage cause i havent got to drive it yet.

find your self a 5.3 and swap that in there, i put a 5.3 in my k-5 and can get 16 mpg with no overdrive. I bet in a s-10 with overdrive and lean cruise enabled you could see 25, maby more if you get your self a DOD 5.3

thats probably the best route. But right now I can't afford to buy an engine like that

I have a low milage 350 crate engine I can buy for $500 and i have an original 87 350 with 60-70K on it i can have for $300.

If you use a TH-350 with the 9" tail on it, you don't need to mess with the drive shaft.

I estimate about 20-22 with a properly set up gen III V8 with OD and high gears. Maybe more with a chip and if you're easy on the go pedal.

I would say a little higher but in that range.
