Ok, so a month or so ago i was wandering the local parts yard and came upon a nearly stripped ex city truck, and from what im aware most of the trucks the local boys have are ex m1008's painted yellow. anyway, it still had the axles under it, rear was complete, front was missing wheel hubs, lockouts rotors and calipers, the dude told me 400 for the pair, i went back about 2 weeks ago and told him what new hubs and lockouts would run me and asked if he could do any better,so he said 300, then i told him i'd take em, and i also needed the both the spring plates in the front, and he told me 20 bucks for them.

so needless to say i bought them,

so did i get a decent deal? i'm pretty sure i did, the 4.56's seem like a good enough reason, let alone the locker,

but i started takeing them apart, removed the drums, and figured i'd take off the front spindles and clean em and coat em with grease till i can get new hubs and whatnot, but the bottom side of the one spindle almost looks like it was hit with a grinder down the length of it, gently but nonetheless, may it still be useable? and they also have a bit of rust, ( i dont know how, or if i'm allowed to post pics)

and another question, if i end up having to buy new lockouts, should i just wait and get new stubshafts and 35 splines? it will be a long project in any case so thats hardly gonna be the standstill point.

and on a completely unrelated note, is the fact that im not a paid member the reason i cant view most photos scattered through the forums?

thanks in advance, i appreciate it, and if i am allowed to post pics, i can post a pic of the spindles saturday or monday for further insight.

Yes, being a member lets you see the photos, post in forums and lets you recieve feedback.:waytogo: also get the chance to win $50 every month, which I have won. This membership is the best money I have spent. endless amount of knowledge in here.

Im thinking you got your self a pair of tons for 300 bucks? Im just assuming because of the 4.56s and locker......lucky.

lucky is right. cost me over 1500 for front and rear. of coarse they where complete but i am tearing them down anyway and replacing alot of what you are missing in the front

An absolute steal if they are from a military 1 ton.

You can post pictures by linking them from another site like photobucket.com, it's free and easy to figure out. There is a post here somewhere explaining how to do it if you need.

As for the 35 spline outers, you didn't tell us what tire or truck you're going to use but IMO absolutely yes. You're already in for replacing the hubs anyway and the 30 spline outers are a pretty big weak point. My personal experience: I broke a GM D60 30 spline stub shaft and hub on the same trail on 37's, lucky it didn't ruin the spindle and wheel bearings (a broken stub often does). Switched to 35 spline outers (still running Spicer inner shafts and Spicer joints) on 42's for the last 5-6 years with no issues at all, it's a cheap "no-brainer" upgrade for a 60 IMO.

yes, definitely from a military truck, not a low mileage one by any means I'm sure. the city pretty much runs em into the ground before they eventually haul em off to the yard, but yeah, anyway...

they're destined for a 75 blazer, that i just picked up a month or so ago

not entirely sure on the amount of lift or ending tire size, somewhere in the 37" + category, not exactly sure how much lift i'll need to clear them, but i suppose i'll figure it out,

but yes i was pretty sure it was a steal, glad to have it confirmed, so i suppose that the 35 spline outers is a most likely thing

and i should be able to post pics of the spindles tomorrow morning, assuming i dont be lazy and sleep till like noon...

you got a hell of a deal.anether 500 bucks for the rebuild parts you need and you can run pretty much any tire up to a 44.35 spline hubs will help a lot in the strength department.

Lets see these axles. and when it comes to making lift decisions everybody here will gladly help you out on what to and not to buy.

Yep, you got a hell of a deal!
looking at those axles, you've definitely got your work cut out for you. Hide your wallet...the front axle will eat it...speaking from experience.
