Just a fun truck. Daily it for the most part and hit the trails on the weekends.
Check out that body flex between the cab and bed holy crap! What happened to your last one?

That's typical isn't it?

And which one?

no it's not typical. I think your rear cab mounts are toast.

Is there rubber mounts between the frame and the bed? Last bed I pulled I don't remember there being bushings under there.

That last truck you were building after moving to CO. You had a ton of work and parts into it I thought and close to done.
It got parted out. Sold the tons and some other stuff off it.

Scrapped the clapped out cab and tweaked frame.

I've had another '79 K20 and a '69 C20 between that truck and the current one.

Thinking about taking it to the car wash tomorrow and hosing everything down real good.

There's fluids and other stuff all over the place and the engine bay needs to be cleaned out too.

I have always had a theory and I invite others opinions. When four wheeling/flexing the chassis like you are in the above pics, and there is no front bumper to act as a crossmember/ stiffener you are putting a great deal of stress on the steering box mounting points. As this is obviously a weak spot perhaps a front bumper or at least a temporary one should be used. Opinions?

I was gonna try to get this installed this weekend with a new water pump and radiator hoses. Not sure if I wanna get back into this thing just yet after working on it for 2 weeks straight.

Currently has a Qjet with a lot of the vac ports capped off and the factory cast iron intake.

I honestly don't see the factory bumpers doing a whole lot for the frame. The brackets that bolt to the sides of the frame rails are kinda flimsy and the bumper secures itself to the frame horns with 2 bolts.

I do have an ORD bolt-in brace, 2 piece deal. My frame wasn't cracked when I removed the 4x4 box and replaced it with the 2x4 one either.

Gave the ol girl a wash.

Mostly to knock off all of the extra grease, aint-seize, power steering fluid and gear oil that got on every single thing during the build.

Hit the front of the engine, oil pan, transmission and front axle real hard cause they were all super grimey.

Now I'll actually be able to identify any leaks if/when the pop up.

Now it will leak worse since you washed off all the crud holding the oil in. I once had an '83 chevy back in WI where everything is real rusty, I pulled the engine and pressure washed the frame and the few spots that were real grimy were like brand new underneath.

It already leaks lol. Chrome timing cover and oil pan, rear main seal is probably leaking like most of em. I've got a leak at the SM465 somewhere too.

I'm more concerned about my brake line fittings at the prop valve and the unions that I made. I wanna keep an eye on the power steering hose fittings too.

It'll be much easier to do now that there isn't grime, crud and fluids all over the place anymore.

Been driving the truck around. Suspension/ Steering/ Braking wise everything seems to be doing well.

I still haven't done an alignment  but I don't have any wobbles and I can take my hand off of the steering wheel at 30+ and it doesn't do anything weird.

The truck hesitates though. It has the Q-Jet and cast iron spreadbore intake on it. The Q-Jet has a lot of capped off vac ports. Also I noticed on the water neck and a fitting in the intake that there are multiple vac ports just sitting open, not capped off.

I've got an eddy aluminum intake and a nice Holley 670 vac secondary that was recently gone through by a family friend down at VDL fuel systems in Alabama.

I'm planning on pulling the old stuff Friday night or early Saturday morning, cleaning things up and getting the new parts installed. I think that there is gonna be a huge change in how this engine idles and performs on the street.

Another thing that I've got to work on is the driver side mounting hole for the trans mount/ t-case adapter. When I was putting the truck together I noticed that there wasn't a bolt or bottom portion of the bushing on the drivers side. I pulled a bolt and the bushing from a crossmember that I had in the garage and got it in. When I was tightening the bolt it mad a slight pop and lost it's torque so I'm think pulled threads or the threads are just trashed from rust or something. I'm gonna run a 1/2" tap through it and see what happens. It may need to be opened up and tapped for a 9/16" bolt. If I have to go that route I'll just do both sides so I'm not mismatched.

I've got a small list of other things that I'd like to do. Picking up a spare 315/75r16 tire is one of them.

No leaks in the engine bay, along the frame rails or on the the rear end with all of the new steering stuff and brake lines/junctions. I'm glad I took a little time to wash everything off and have a clean slate to look for leaks.
