sand drags

the specs on the motor before i started my rebuild were-holley 950 carb modified by pro fuel sytems, the manifold is a Dart single plain hi rise oval port , the heads were stock oval ports from an early 396 bbc, the cam and lifters were isky hydralic roller-the cam specs were 228/232 at .050 duration and .550 vavle lift. the bottom end is eagle 4.250 stroke with h beam rods and 9:1 compression flat top pistons. still able to drive around on pump gas but love NOS

the motor will be different after the rebuild. i am changing to solid roller camshaft, adding shaft rockers and trick flow specialties oval port heads. the carb, manifold and bottom end will remain the same to remain pump gas friendly but i will gain a lot of rpm and hp :D

so as long as i am not going to use paddles then the 12-bolt should be fine? (trying to keep the budget low)

what about the engine?? any suggestions??

whats the specs of yours?

I have seen guys run 10 bolts with paddles but I personaly would not do it.

Engine there is no many options. If you want quick cheap power NOS is the way to go.

As for mine, my truck is a bowtie block bored out to like 364 14.5:1 compression, victor jr. intake, brodix heads, and lots of other goodies.

For drivetrain I got 10 bolts front and rear with 3:73 and a turbo 400 mated to a NP208. Had this set up for almost 7 years and havent broken it yet.

Location?

Are you really in Saudi Arabia? If so i doubt its going to be easy to find D60s. I didnt even know Middle eastern countries had american vehicles over there, unless they have a .50 cal :haha::haha::haha:

yes, i really am in Saudi Arabia

the most popular cars here are American cars and japanese cars as well..

the most popular at a time was the Chevy Caprise, the Suberban is still an all time favorite for lots of people

for me.. i have my k5 truck and a 2001 Tahoe.. i also had a 2002 Caprise (which comes from Australia now)

i thouhgt of installing NOS a lot.. but am afraid i wont be able to find a place to refill the tank here... unless i can do it somehow at home :)

how much is the boost in power if i installed NOS???

these are the specs of the engine in the videos???

really great.. but a single plain?? this was from a sports car?

My friends uncle use to sand drag an 84 blazer, that thing haulled great, it had a highly modified 305 with a th350 and 12 bolt ear end, no paddles, a 2500 torque converter i believe and NOS. the engine broke down before the rear end ever gave trouble.

how much is usually sprayed??

and how much would a 10lb tank last??

I really dont have alot of expeirence with Nitrous. If its a stock motor I wouldnt go any more than a 50 shot.

Thats about all I can tell you, I really do not know a whole lot about the subject since I have never run it.

As far as how much is sprayed depends on your kit. I have no expeirence w/sand drags but I have built and ran a few Mustangs in my day 2 of them with nitrous. My last stang was a 90 coupe with a 377 stroker and a 2 stage nitrous kit, I would launch it on a 125hp shot and the 2nd stage I was spraying an additional 175hp for a total of 300hp. Granted the engine was built for spray (very beefy bottom end, specific cam profile, and specific head port work) on the full spray the car dyno'd at 730hp at the wheels. That being said, depending on the type of kit, plate-fogger-etc. , hp increases from 50hp to 500hp are possible but you must have an engine that is designed to handle the amount you are planning on using. Fuel system requirements will change as well, more spray=more fuel needed, I was running a separate pump and even a seperate small fuel cell just to feed the fuel side of the nitrous kits. Then once you start getting up over 150hp kits you will need to upgrade your ignition system and look at a box to adjust timing as nitrous is applied (the more spray the more timing has to come out).

The amount of nitrous you plan on spraying will determine the amount of upgrades/modifications required to have your engine work properly.

As far as how long will a bottle last, it depends, but, I was running 2 10lb bottles and they would last approx. 10-13 passes (w/purging before each pass):D

For a 454 with stock bottom end i would recommend 150 shot. You could spary more than that but you risk throwing a rod or shattering a piston. :dunno:

Hope you are doing fine

you can use a GenIII small block but its cost + the cost involved in mounting it and modifying the Wiring and canceling the security stuff from the ECM will be similar to the cost of modifying your 454 ( given that you won't buy aftermarket heads )

the advantage of the Gen III is their reliability and it is more suitable for daily use

I am building an engine for my K15 for the same application ( sand drags )
it is a 1986 GMC K15 shortbed
14BFF rear + 10-bolt Front w/3.73
SM465 Tranny + NP205 TC
454 motor bored +0.040"
Forged Pistons + Forged Rods + Stock Crank
Large Oval Heads (DIY Ported) with 2.19/1.99 valves
Voodoo 60203 Cam Kit
Performer RPM Intake + Performer 750 Carb ( Planning to use Holley or Demon in the near future )
Long tube headers + dual exhaust + Throush Mufflers ( Yes very load :D)
and I am planning to use N2O in the future

after the paint job
I will use 33" Savero MT Tires instead of these 3 years old Maxxis 33" ATs
