I did the first test drive this weekend after a month and a half build. The truck started with a 6" ifs lift and stock 1/2 ton suspension. We went with an ORU sas kit, hp d60, 14bff . . . I was going to post some pictures but I think I need to have 5 posts or more. There are a couple in my album.

The first drive went well yesterday but of course the brakes are lacking. So today I went to Napa and got the biggest master cylinder they had for a 98 chev truck, when I pulled the stock original master cylinder off the truck this evening I measured both master cylinder bores and found the stock 1/2 ton mc to have a 1 9/16" bore, and napa's mc had a 1 1/8". Externally they are identical so I don't think the 1 1/8" will have any greater volume than the stocker. I assumed the stock mc would not be big enough to run all 1 ton brakes. I thought we had the brakes bleed pretty well but I could have had some air in the lines still. I'll try the stocker and do some more bleeding.

Good for you on your sas! I plan to start mine in the near future. I have a 1990 4x4 and a 1997 2wd, and I am going to swap the 1997 body and vortec motor onto the 1990 frame. While I'm doing that, I'm thinking about getting the brackets from Sky, and putting them on while I have the frame out.

Did you use the pan hard bar on the front?

No panhard yet. I built the truck for a buddy who just wanted to run 40's, he probably wont wheel it too hard. Sky machined the passenger side knuckle for the D60 balljoint axle and provided the cross over steering which felt pretty good without any panhard, I have some stuff to add one later if we feel like its necessary.

Here you go. bad cell phone pics

front springs are 6" lift 52"ers; rear springs for 73-87 chevy 3/4ton. without shocks or panhard bar the ride is pretty smooth and for the most part stable, hard to believe but I like it the way it is. I'm measuring for shocks tomorrow, we'll see what happens after that.

Im going back and forth on wether to do an sas or just put a lift on mine, I mean, it's just going to be a mall crawler, some mud, maybe.

But it looks like you did a great job on this one, makes me want.

I would say straight axle that mofo. Just because your doing a sas doesnt mean you need a d60 and lockers and 40"s. A lot of people could probably appreciate what a straigh axled truck has going on. And this guy was tearing up his ifs in mud with 37"s. I would get a sky front crossmember and run a d44 or 10b in the front with 35" all day long, with the front axle pushed as far foreward as possible. That's what my 78 has and it would be a nice driver with crossover steering and a good tune up on the engine.

I here you. I got all the time in the world to do it, and the sky x-member is pretty cheap, so I can get it done. I think i'm going to try and trade the old body and frame off to the auto salvage guy and see if he'll give me a d44, or 60 if I can manage it.

I thought I would try to part that thing out, but I don't know if I want to deal with it.

Truck turned out well. Lets see some pics of it in the dirt when you get it all wrapped up. :)

Very nice truck, that is how i want my to end up. I have this crazy idea of sasing it and keeping 6 lug half ton, I just don't need one tons on it, I already got a 6 lug 14 bolt semi floater out of the junk yard, that will bolt right in. Then i will use a 10 bolt front,i dont plan to run disc brakes in the rear.I dont even plan to run a shackle flip in the rear, i am going to keep it very simple.

I want this truck to look like yours some day.

Im thinking about running an older np241 like out of an 89-91 blazer or suburban, like cajun4x4 did. I know where a few of those tcases are in some local junk yards. I still need 2 do some more research and get some money lol.

Just so you know the 89 NP241 used a speedo cable like the older rigs and the 90-91 NP241 used the speed sensor like the IFS trucks. I'd look for a 90-91 if I were in your shoes.

Actually, I'd find a Ford D44 from the late 70's and convert it to 6 lug outers. Keep my stock transfer case and have a high pinion, reverse cut D44 with about a 25% strength increase over a GM D44 or 10 bolt.

won't wheel it too hard?? let me trade him my high pinion Dana 44:D
