sas on 2003 2500hd

The bumpers ive liked too but when i seen them color matched in google searches i had to pic these two especially since there about 1/3 of the price.

Thats what im thinking too, i dont need a locker of any sort tho just atleast a posi. So i guess ill get the eaton positraction carrier and put that in instead of the g80.

If you dont "need" the locker for your use id stick with the g80, they do work just with severe abuse they wear out, but so will the clutches in a posi just the same.

as i have said before dd use and light offroad i love a gov-lok in 14ff only.

and us yankee drivers thay work better in dd use in snow.

The light offroad is prob all it will ever get, and it does good now in the snow...lol. Still unsure if ill get the eaton positraction carrier yet tho. Might just pick it up and do it while its apart.....i hate decisions...lol. Also the black or color match bumper deal is going to drive me nuts also....lol. This constant changing and modding things is a terrible disease, it just gets worse..lol.

As for the 5:13s motive gears, they were installed last week, the 14 bolt was a little more work than i had thought. The cover was pulled off and the gov lock had exploded many moons ago and the clutches were scattered throughout the oil. For parts for the gov lock i called the dealer and the clutches alone were 150 per side. I dropped em off and got another not so good call later that day that more than the clutches were shot. Thats where i was stumped. A local guy that specializes in axle sales had a 2001 chevy 2500hd 14 bolt open carrier. Also he had a new take out detroit locker from a crated military 14 bolt, luckily the older 14 bolt and the newer ones the lockers are the same. So all in all i have 500 in the gear install, 400 in parts and 125 in the cover. That being all done both axles got all new bearings, seals, gaskets, full grease jobs andthe only thing left is to drain and fill them in about 500 miles for break in.

In the meantime i added a skyjacker dual steering stabilizer but before i put it on i painted then cleared the white shocks in duplicolor body color. All hardware was done in por black. A pic is added later. Also needed some other source to watch all the vitals so i picked up a good craigslist find of scan guages in a pod, i painted the pod with sem paint to match the interior, pic added also. Guages are needed but they do watch everything you can think of, even scan and clear dtcs when needed.

2 more mods done arent offroad at all but are a nice addition. I bought a new pioneer 4300 indash dvd/cd/mp3/gps/xm...etc 7 inch monitor stereo, that just fit. Some alloy accents were added to give some charecter. I had the guages all redone so all the lights now work and everything reads correct. Also added a set of power fold turn signal heated mirrors. Some pics of those too. The last thing i did was add a 60 inch highlift jack with bed mount and an a tri fold bed cover. Then a locking tailgate handle to button it all up.

those gauges kick but i have been reading up on them on there web site . lots of cool stuff for 96-up obd2 olug n play .

5.13 make it new truck again ?

Yes they did, its super peppy and does the hills and mountains with ease. The guages are pretty neat and were well worth the money. I ordered a pcm tune from wheatley too, will be here next week.

Did a few things in the past few days. Easter sunday my heat guage was fluctuating from 185-210, I could stop the clutch fan pretty easy when hot. So i changed the fan clutch with a heavy duty replacement, changed the belt and bought a new thermostat. Seems to run nicely at 192-194 constant.

While under the hood the usps man dropped off my wheatley tune and i installed that then did the security relearn. Still before i could see the full potential of the tune a crank relearn had to be done. I did the relearn this morning with a gm tech 2. What a world of a differance, seems to have alot more power, shifts super nice and my speedo is only off 2 mph compared to my gps. I didnt get to fully test it out yet tho since my 5:13 gears arent fully broken in yet.

Swapped out the factory warn hubs for a new set of milemarker stainless hubs, picked up a set of bds 5.5 inch springs finally. Going to do the rear springs and a short block to level it out. Also found a set of procomp extreme mud terrains 1/4 tread in 37-12.50-17 and mounted em on my h2 wheels. Then after that i picked up another set of h2 wheels that if i dont sell im going to get powder coated charcoal for winter time . Ill mount them on my bfgoodrich km2s..

Ill get pics of the new hubs and tires, nothing new besides those few things..

Bds glide ride 5.5 lift springs with 3 inch blocks, it settled some tho. Still sits about 1/2 inch low in the rear.

Thankyou...much appreciated. I noticed when i put the new springs on that the truck is 2 inches taller and the shocks are pulled apart 2 inches more. What sux is there year old bilstein 5150s. So i ordered a set of readylift rear shock extenders thursday and picked em up yest after work. They dont make em for a 2500 only for 1500s, so i used em for a 1500. The only thing i noticed is that the extender is 1/4 inch wider than the upper shock mount. So i used a grinder and took off 1/8 inch each side and they fit perfect. I got the 2 inches back that i lost. Heres a pic of the extenders..

New addition, i picked up a set of new old stock weld cheyenne 8's in 16.5x10 with 4.5 backspacing and also a set of military take off wranglers 37-12.50-16.5 95% treads.

Thanks guys....as for the sas it drives pretty good and also its been real good. For the wheels and tires i found the wheels on pirate for 375 for all 5. Plus shiping was 500.00. It was new old stock, they were new in the boxes, still bagged with the rim protectors. The tires i picked up from military tires.net, they are 95% tread and in awesome shape average price tho 600 for four shipped. I picked up a 5th from a buddy for 50.00. Going to unload the tires today and finish getting it cleaned up. The tires hang out more than i wanted but i couldnt pass up the deal, still tho pissed about selling the bajas. They would of been perfect and looked better but these seem to ride better at 40 psi.

Truck looks great! have any other pics of the axle brackets / coil mounts?

I like the mirrors :waytogo:

Dont see what else you changed though :dunno:

Removed the stainless nonsense. Changed the door handles to painted color match, removed the orange from the headlights and put in amber bulbs for the turn signals. The power fold, heated mirrors are getting painted now along with a top front bumper cap. Im tired of cleaning the stainless and tired of always shining the stained black plastic.

Also added limiting straps to the shocks up front so i dont over extend the suspention ever and tear off my abs wires. Picked up a nice efan setup to remove the clutch fan. Going to try the ffd fan set up, with dual fans that have over 6,000 cfm. About 2,000 cfm over the stock clutch or even the stock efan trucks. I had it added to my pcm. I bought the harness from blackbear performance to control them.

Been a few months, finally did some more work. First i had some noise on the drivers side and it ended up being a bad heim on the radius arm. I stepped up and bought better ones but we will see what happens. I feel i may buy a set of emf joints and be done with it. Picked up a new front driveshaft from tattons, nice ground cv gave plenty of splines and also worked out for 8 inches of down travel which is limited before that with a set of limiting straps from ruffstuff. Also my 241 had the front output seal leak bad so i pulled the shaft and flange then replaced it. So far so good.

I took a 95 new dorman chevy truck/tahoe/burb swaybar and put some heat to it and bent the sides in 2.5 inches on each side so its tight to the frame. I know not the best way but it worked so far. Made links from grade 8 threaded rod with nyloc nuts and 3/16 stainless tubing. Had to put the rod inside the link and bend em to what i need. I used the factory mounts/bushings and link hardware. Im going to try and extend the abs wire so it cab follow the brake line then its hidden also. The mounts are 3/8 plate added to my lower coil bucket and a 3/8 gusset to the axle tube. This needed to be done to reinforce the inside of the bucket and since my coil is so far out on the arm. The lower mounts are drilled 9/16 so the bushings fit right in and are squeezed properly. In the pics its on uneven ground the reason why the coil looks bowed is its leaning to that side on the edge of the street.
