sas on 2003 2500hd

Heads mean alot to an extent, they would do better in high rpms. These are done up so at all to me they flow better than stock 317s. But these trickflow 225s on a stock lq9 would bump up the compression some since they are 68cc chambers where stock is 72. Prob be over 10:1. With the lq9 being higher horsepower than my current motor it should run alot better. It doesn't need to have big boost, with the 2300 10psi would be just fine. Lq4 with those heads would prob be better but dunno on the power #.

Let's face it you are not going to stick at 10psi. So would the higher compression LQ9 really be a good idea? I'm thinking an LQ4 is better for your future boost levels.

With the 2300 i prob will stay at 12 psi, only so much u can put your daily driver thru, ask me how i know..lol. You are probably right on the lq4 , I made a few calls on a new 370 short block. If i can't come up with one of those in a decent amount of time I will pick up a lq4. Since its so much work with the truck being so huge id rather not go stock if I don't need to... I'm driving myself nuts on what to do with it.

edit, going to start working on it friday to see what happened and remove what all i can save or reuse. From what i think the block and heads are junk.

Called Texas speed for a short block, 6-8 weeks... he said hang on I'll get the specs for what's in stock. So in stock they have a lq9 block 408, k1 technologies forged crank/rods, cpcarillo pistons.

With the trickflow heads it will be 10.2:1. I purchased that today, 3-5 days it will be here. That with my cam and 10-12 psi and it will be a monster...lol

YES!!!! Now we're talking!

That decision of doing this drove me nuts. I couldn't see going thru all of this for another stock motor. Going to be buying a small car or truck next year so a bigger motor works for me. I called about 10 places, the bad reviews drove me insane..lol. Texas speed i didn't find much bad at all, nothing that concerns a shortblock anyway. I'm glad i called there again, they have a few instock, this 408 has a little higher compression than i wanted but thats fine i'll deal with 10.2. Still need to see what else i'll need, ordered the gaskets last night from brian tooley. Hope to have the heads in my hands by the weekend, then i can put my btr .660 valve springs on them. They come with a arp head stud kit and a set of johnson drop in lifters, no ls7 lifters this time. https://www.texas-speed.com/p-5629-johnson-2110-drop-in-lifters-for-all-ls-engines.aspx

The motor comes painted black so do i repaint it another color or do i leave it and paint the valve covers and timing cover. Was thinking of picking up ls9 valve covers so the coils bolt right on, they look cleaner that way. Really i should just bolt it together and not worry about it, you can't see it anyway...lol.

Going to start on this tonight, taking the radiator out and removing the cooler lines. If there is signs of contamination i will be changing them both anyway. I hope to have the motor out and pulled apart by the end of the weekend, that way i can clean all the parts i need to reuse which isn't too many. The motor tracking says its at the terminal and is 45 min away in wilkesbarre pa, so i'll see that today or monday. Hope to have it in and running in 2 weeks tops, with doing an all new build i will get most of it together and need to measure for push rod length. Those will take a few days to get so i'd like to do that as soon as possible. I bought the comp cams push rod length checker and have a set of 8 inch calipers to double check..

Dang that's a nice little slurry in the pan

Yea its not too good, i won't be using much off of this. Looks like valve covers, valve springs, timing cover and few sensors is about it. I'm glad i have a new cam and lifters since the stuff in the old 6.0 is probably junk. I might pick up a set of rocker bronze bushings so that's one less thing to worry about.

Come on take it out of the plastic!

Nope, can't break it that way..lol. Its out and the machine work looks great, rather impressed. I didn't have my phone tho...its ready for the rest of the parts, as soon as they come in i'll post more pics for you soon. Need to open up the supercharger too just to make sure its all ok and no fragments made it inside. I have the seal kit already and a pint of the oil so why not. Then i know for sure its ready to roll....

looks like there proud of there work . . . . machined logo in the block :saweet:

Most places do that now if they are cnc machined, the shop is pretty state of the art. Its a really nice looking job, the spec sheet was pretty good too(if its as it says).

Parts are all here, soaking/cleaning the used oil pan, timing cover and valve covers in the parts washer so i can paint them. I think ill leave the block black and paint the covers chevy orange to break it up a bit. Should have enough of it together monday so I can measure for push rods. Going to try to get the motor in by next weekend. I did get the new brake booster installed since the motors out it was easy. Now to do the rest...

In the crate is a case of Joe Gibbs driven, ati 10%od 8 rib balancer, arp head studs, arp cam bolts, arp balancer bolt, valve seals, springs, straub rocker bushing kit, head gaskets, timing set, timing tensioner, misc gaskets and the used oil pan(since mine has a hole in it).

Not in the crate... From the dealer a new water pump, hoses, radiator, thermostat and cooler hoses.
