Sasquatch

92 K3500 CCLB 454 TBI / 4L80E This is the rebuild of a rig that was purchased recently. This is to serve as a family tow rig that doesn't have a payment.
Found that the rear axle was moving around to much. The drivers side was about 3/8" back while the front was in the correct location. This explained some of the cornering and excessive parking lot turn around problems.

You can also kind of see it in the first pic. They used a Ford add a leaf and trimmed it to fit the u-bolts.
I had bought an add a leaf at the parts store when I bought the replacement pins. Unfortunately it will require completely disassemble of the pack. I'll do that later when I put new bushings in the truck. Until than. It will have a slight bit of Ford on it.

The driveline had a pretty nasty vibration. So, crawled underneath. Found a rotten carrier bearing. 2 part numbers for the same truck. One has a 1/4" shorter mounting height. Lifted trucks need an adjusted driveline angle. Well, I went with the shorter mounting height to fix driveline angles.

Had a bad buld in the headlights. Plus they were pretty yellow. So, we went ahead and replaced them with new housings that came with new bulbs.

So I pulled the Tigercat show trailer for the last time Wednesday. I had to get it delivered to the dealer before I no longer work for Tigercat. That resulted in a breakdown on the side of the road. Threw the serpentine belt. Instantly hit 260* and increased the leaks on the truck. The radiator blew a seam and showed me where the leaks have been coming from. This radiator has a trans cooler and engine oil cooler built in. The P.O. also installed an aftermarket trans cooler mounted on the fan side of the radiator. They just cut the factory hard line and ran rubber inline. It was leaking also.

Than found the frame support braces broke. I'll get a pic later.

No welder at the house and I need this rig running. So, I'm putting the radiator back in and I'll weld it up at my father in laws later in the week.

Learned a bit about the radiator options for these rigs today also. Measure the core inside the top and bottom plates. 19" radiator does not for in the 17" hole.

Hit a deer last night. Possibly bent the tie rod. Or I just got paranoid and realized all the bad things with the way it drives. Either way, I did some research last night.
Than I came up with an idea. Well, actually a coworker planted the seed a couple days ago. What if I put the axles from the Limo under it? SAS with a passenger side drop Dana 60, hydro assist and 4 wheel disc brakes. Build a slip in camping pod like they use in Australia with the flatbed hilux pickups?
I'm torn because I don't really want to kill the limo. Tham I realize I don't really want to build 4 rigs at the same time. If I could consolidate two rigs into one, and the two biggest builds. Than I would have more funds and time for them.

it was a hard choice for me to kill a project last year . but once i tore it all apart and relized how bad she had gotten rust wise in the body from sitting i didnt feel so bad in the end.

the only things i tossed was sheet metal and few tiny odds and ends . 98% of that build up now lives and makes 3 other trucks move much farther up the completed list and better parts in them .

right now i am on my lunch break in my shop from taking a crew cab frame and chopping 33" out of the middle to make it a std cab frame and then its body swap a 2wd donor and driveline swap my old SHOT plow truck all in to 1 new truck .

so take a break sit back and look the projects over and think about them good . the answer will show you the way  :deal:

While it would be sad to see the limo parted... What works best for y'all?

I know bed space is pretty nice to have, and a camper like you talked about would be pretty sweet, plus still be able to do truck stuff when you need it.

What other builds do you have going on?

I have been offered a couple rigs this last month. Until they show up I am not counting on them yet. First one, 4.0 liter Mazda 2wd scab. Second is a 97 S10 4door blazer. Brycen is 11 and is starting to show an interest in wheeling. Once they show up than I will decide what to do with them.
Jess wants to keep her 05 Expedition with a 5.4 TRITON engine. Possible lift and stereo/DVD upgrade.
My 2005 Ram Cummins still needs a rebuild.
