Well i did it! I saved anther piece of history, and made my wife cry at the same time.:haha: Bought a 1970 m818 tractor for 3000 dollars and he threw in 6 14r20 (49" tall hemmt tires) Michelin's for anther 600 dollars. Whats the old saying go big or go home. Well they don't come much bigger. Here's a few pictures to tied u over for now. Its powered by a inline 6, 250hp@2100rpm, Cummins NHC-250 diesel engine, 855 c.i.

The last picture is what it will look like when its all done some time next summer. Still need to find hemmt rims for those 49" tires and a deuce bed.

m818 http://www.oshkoshequipment.com/details.cfm?ProductID=126&pid=2&cat=4
818 is a 5 speed spicer manual

m920 http://www.oshkoshequipment.com/details.cfm?ProductID=141&pid=2&cat=4
920 is a 16 speed auto cat trans
Yeah 5 ton is only 10000 lbs so your payload is 7.5 ton which is pretty good for such a heavy beast.
The 5tons have 8 lug wheels versus 6 lug for the 2.5 ton.

Five tons are 10 lug

The trucks five hours north of me and recovery is set for augest 27th.

well bonus is real brakes over 2.5 ton single line master system.

real p/s over the air assist option only factory on 2.5 ton

and now you have a bigger platform to add more power to later with less breaking of parts.

i seen a video of a 5 ton or one of these in the woods/mud trials. guy was hammerin it home and finaly got it out and it was awsum to watch it take the abuse. :thumb:

Does it snow in Indiana in the summer?

:haha:

Nice snag, I like it!

whats the gear ratio in that? there must be a big split in between those gears with only a 5spd.
one of our trucks had a 330 cummins with a 9spd and 4.63s. it was low geared enough for power, but 60mph was it. all of our dumptrucks where like that. low geared and under powered.

Hey now thats awesome, great minds think alike!

we got a 1978 m912 oshkosh in our yard that was abandoned after we inframed the 8v92, its got a big Allison behind it. It's seriously been sitting just like it is, for 10 months or so with a brand new engine, with 2 new heads. I'm trying to get the company to sell it to me. This pig has 14r24 tires!

Ha for giggles I looked at the gvw on the m911. With the tag axle, 88,000 lb.

Looks like the truck Rocky drove in First Blood!...I'd love to havr one like that for plowing, you could sleep till it stops snowing with no fears of not being able to push whatever the amount of snow is with that thing!...

Something is wrong though, when you can buy a truck like that for 3 grand, but you cant find a decent Blazer or Pickup for that much !...you get a lot for your money at these army surplus auctions...the scrap priice on that big a truck must be close too or more than that much too I bet...

rocky first blood was the old 2 ton 6x6 gmc model. not even the 2.5 ton deuce we all like to use the axles from and play with.
