I've always been looking for something. I use SearchTempest to take a look at various things that I might want to get to drive. That's how I got my K5, which I still currently have.

Well, my K is nearly back together, but I keep looking. See, this summer, I took my large family camping for the first time. Tent camping. And we had to pack our minivan to the gills. Too full. Plus, of course, I could never tow with it.

Add to this that I had to put a bench out of a 2002 Silverado to fit everyone...and someone would be in the center jump seat, over the transfer case lever...too tight. Not to mention what might happen if something fell on the rear seat with the convertible top.

So, I started looking. And I found something. I pulled the trigger.

I found a 1-owner SoCal V20 4x4 suburban with 108K miles. It's not perfect (you will be able to see by the pics) but mechanically, it's pretty sound.

It arrived today after it's cross-country journey.

I've learned from (some) of my K-mistakes, and I plan on doing mild building so that I can wheel slightly, but I want to be able to drive it. Pics coming next.

Note 1: Started right up, no major problems.
Note 2: Rear window goes down, will not go back up. Any thoughts are most welcome. Power window.

Looks great! :waytogo:

I'd get in there and replace the tired carpets, and reupholster the front seats and foams.... (Maybe the headliner if it's drooping?).... And that interior would be factory-fresh again.

Surely the brotherhood will get you sorted on that rear window issue..... It's not my specialty, but I know it's a common weak point and a pretty simple fix.

Congrats!

Greg, thanks!

I stripped carpet out of the K I have, but I think I'll keep this one nicer so the wife will drive it. Heh heh.

I did the headliner in my K, though, and that came out great,

Gotta get the window fixed, first. RAIN!!!!!

Very nice!! If I end up having kid #3 I'll be looking for one of these also. What engine is that?

Isn't there a safety switch for the rear window that makes sure the tailgate is shut before it will allow it to roll up? maybe that switch is bad?

also check the wiring connections in the key switch itself, you can make a jumper for the switch, the down side is the interior light's will stay on,at least mine did

I'm on child #4: all girls. It's a 350 in it.

That safety switch is spliced out of my K. Haven't been under this one yet; it arrived off the truck when I was at work with my tie on.

I'll have to be testing a bunch of spots to see what the draw is, but there is a good write up here that I've bookmarked that talked about a ground switch.

I did see that it has 12+ amps at all time when running, and it didn't dip when hitting a window switch or when I hit the rear air. That's a nice change from my K. I think the gauge dips when I look at it funny.

I live in the woods in NWPA. I am in a city, of sorts, so it's not quite BFE, but I can drive there in half an hour. :D

I plan on mild upgrades; I just added a thread here about Burb lifts, because I know the back end requires different deals than a K does. Also, I might do a body lift (1" ORD) to replace old rubber and give just a bit more clearance, but I would like to hear about people's experiences with it/them.

I do plan on keeping the dog dishes!
