SBD's 69K5 "The Anti Prius" Everybody loves Pictures & Video-(My not a build thread)

Ya Ya Ya I know I'm slow. What are we bumpin for? Lets start here, I powder coated the TC cross member installed it then had to remove it to finish the exhaust stuff. Got the Trans case replaced and the TC freshened up with new bearings and seals and installed those ORD modified shift rails and got it back in:woot:. Well that's when I thought I was moving forward towards the Halloween dead line.IMG_0612.jpg
Then the trouble began, The holly sniper shit the bed and I had to send it back to Holley to get a new ECM or ECU or what ever they call it (Bonus no charge:saweet:, warranted it even tho I bought it used off the internet), got it back slapped it in and it fired right up drove it around the hood a bit to bring it up to temp , then it shut down like no spark until it cooled down then it would fire up again, I could not get more than a 15 min continuous run out of it if I just let it idle then it would just shut down and I could crank and crank but no start like no spark or maybe no fuel it was hard to tell:dunno:. Holley Tech's swear nothing is wrong with the sniper unit as it was tested just last week. Well I thought they were wrong so I ordered up a fuel regulator to reduce the pressure from the fuel pump I installed in the tank for the sniper(65psi) down to carburetor pressure(6psi) tossed in my old double pumper and ta da it fired right up (but it was cold) (not up to temp) drove it around the hood a bit to bring it up to temp and parked it in the driveway then tried to restart it. Well wouldn't you know it did not re-start just cranked and cranked like no spark or maybe no fuel:dunno:. Just for shits & giggles I changed out the cap and rotor and I had a spare coil so that went in also. It cooled down and fired right up, ran for about 15 min and shut down. Did a quick test to check spark from the MSD 6al box and that did not pan out perfect. Maybe this 15yr old box has met it's service life, I'm not 100% convinced yet But this would be the spark side of the problem. Now for the fuel issue, Wait what? Ya I'll tell that tail later in the week

Seems like lots of goofy problems on these old vehicles always comes back to an MSD box.

I've had 3 bad MSD boxes bad out of the box. I have zero trust for them. It's all marketing too, if they actually did anything don't you think OEMs would be creating their own systems to put on new vehicles?
