I have a 72' 350/205 that i am dealing with. It has been leakking for some time now, and its bugged me for long enough. It apears to be leaking out of the front output. It also likes to dump about a quart or so out on me when checking the level.

So I figured now would be a good time to just throw new seals at it. Is there a kit that has all of them? Is there anything that i should take care of other than seals? I am not interested in rebuilding it as it works great.

I was in napa a while back and they couldnt find the seals in there system? Im sure it was just the guy i was dealing with, But does anyone know what part bumbers they are?

If it dumps a quart out when you check the level, sounds like its overfull. Which probably means the transmission fluid is getting into it.
If I remember right that seal is tricky. 4X4High will probably chime in here shortly with the answer.

I know for a fact it is leaking between the two. Is there a write up on how to change that seal out? i have the same project for my bosses truck comming up, i would rather learn on my own first.

that front t/c seal is in a seal retainer between the front of the cast iron 205 case and the t/c-trans adapter. Removal of the 205 required, but not a big deal to put in once you get it out of the vehicle. You can get a kit, not sure where right now, but it has all the seals and gaskets in it, IRC, about 65$.

Some great info on the 205 in this thread:

Brett knows em well!

Front output flange/yoke has a large steel and rubber washer tightened down with the nut. I was missing the rubber washer (Brett clued me in)... once I replaced it no more leak from the front.

man its bad when people drop my name like i am a expert or somthing. :doah:

the 205 has 2 styles of seal. the old fig 8 style had seal in the adaptor. need to remove the tcase to swap out.

the fig 8 style i think has it in the tcase on a seal retainer. need to remove the tcase to swap it. then unbolt the retainer from the case and get new seal and gasket.

the yokes on these style cases have a rubber splined washer thats sandwiched between the shaft/ yoke body / washer / nut or washer-nut 1 peice.

if no rubber washer i have seen and heard of big blob of rtv in its place to seal it up. but let it cure first.

and most 205 rails i have sen are scored real bad were thay go in the case at the seal point. if it was me find a new set of rails and drop them in when the case is out for the main seal. and get 2 new shift shaft seals when at it. if you ever plan on twin sticking it then now is the time. if not just hook back up and run it like normal even with modifyed rails.

go to the tech section and read and LOOK at ALL the BIG pics i have on 203 range box and full 205 reman with twin stick rails and other goodys.
