I have no idea what I'm looking for. I just started t-hunting again and it's got looking at them. I need one for my truck anyway. I don't know what features I should be looking for. Obviously something with good range...but other than that I have no clue.

I've started looking a little but there's too much to look through. Do I want a power supply and an amp? also what antennas do I want to look at?

That should be enough questions to get the ball rolling...so whatcha got for me.

Cobra 29 classic ( the older the better ) it has a built SWR meter you will need that to keep it tuned
16' coaxial cable. I forget the brand but it is clear in color. maybe it's rg 88 or something like that
An Astatic noise canceling mic. don't get a power mic because the cb has a dynamic built in
I use one4 1/2' top loaded fiberglass antanne. Don't try to use a dual antanne setup because they don't do a thing for you but waste money

I'm a truck driver for years and this setup has been good for me. I have talked to people up to 24 miles away, but it also depends on the skip too. Make sure you get the radio tuned at a cb shop. Shouldn't cost no more than $30.00

I'm a fan of Uniden's. Been driving dumptruck for over 18 years, they take a beating better than anything else I've run...

I've got an old Johnsen Messenger 4110 that's never been cracked open and it still works like new. It all depends on how well you mount it and if you give a hoot about your equipment.

What kind of budget for the project?
Do you want/need SSB?
There have been a couple recent threads in the garage on this topic and there's a whole forum on it and related. Should be some good info in those.

Im using a cheapo Radio Shack one. Its the smallest they make. I got it mainly to talk Truck to Truck when 4x4ing. It has okay range, but im in urban hell, so lots of stuff for it to bounce off of. There are wide range of CBs and power outputs. I plan to get into mobile HAM one of these days. The SSBs are nice, but you have to have someone on the same freq to work, but it gives you your own private channels for the most part. And more secure. Ive got a firestick antenna but may look into the WHIP antenna later on.

One of the Cobra "all in the mic" units is what I currently have. Someday I should get an antenna set up for it. Got it b/c some of the guys I go to the desert with still have cb's.
Mostly I use my 2 meter.

Devin, do you know Donald? If you do give him a call. If you dont call Troy and get his #, if I remember right he has a hook up, he is a good guy and seems to know what is up in the radio world.

yeah I don't know donald really well but I know him. I've got Peter,Jason,Dan pointing me in the right direction so I'll get what I need.

Uniden PC-78LTW in my truck w/ a 102" ss whip.
I like it, built in meters, great adjustibility and instantly turns on when severe weather is broadcasted on your local weather channel....
