A guy on CL says he has a srw dana 60 with a e-locker and a 14bff with a detroit for sale. I have used detroits before but never e-lockers. Are they easy to hook up? is it just a power on, power off relay switch? whats all involved in the install? what do i look for in a 60?

sounds like you got the jist of it
same thing as an air locker, but with an electric solenoid or something to that affect

look it up on Eaton's website, or Youtube has good tutorials

not sure how it works, but if there is a wire hanging out of the diff, you might be able to put power to it and ground to the axle housing.
See if there is a tick sound, or at least try to turn the wheels separate directions. When it's no on, it works like an open diff

I have a 60 with an elocker. One thing to be careful of is that some people call anything electric an "elocker". The ECTED is sometime called that but it's different.

The early d60 elockers had big problems and were considered junk. Supposedly the later versions are updated to fix whatever the problem was. Mine seems to work ok, it works similar to an arb, but is electric. I'm running mine right off a switch without a relay.

If you want to test it, just run 12v to the two wires coming out the top of the diff and turn the axle shafts/tires a full turn to engage the locker. You won't hear anything engaging, but you can hear a click when you shut it off.

If the price is right, go for it.

There are a handful of electric lockers out there, so specifics are important. Which one, which model, etc.

The Auburn "electric locker" isn't a locker, it's a limited slip that gets more aggressive when you flip the switch. I'd avoid that one.

The Detroit electrac (sp?) is discontinued I believe, the concept seemed ok but I never heard great things.

I like the design of the Eaton E-locker and tried to buy one when they first came out, they BS'd me for months that they'd have 35 spline lockers available "next week" after I ordered one, received it, turns out it was 30 spline in a box with a 35 spline part number. They didn't actually have 35 spline electric lockers for nearly 6 months, good thing I didn't wait. Got my money back and got a Detroit.

I'd trade it any day for an ARB :pimp:

going to call the guy again today and find out the specs. thanks for the help guys

I have an eaton E-locker in mine and it works great.

2 wires hang out of the differential they go to a relay and a switch.
I think people make to big a deal out of electrical items. Its stupid easy to hook up.

called the guy today, he said he has it in pieces and he gave up on it. now, he says hes a machanic and he says he can have it back together in 1/2 a day. somthing about this spooks me. he says he lost interest but i think its more like, he got into it and found something he didnt like and now he is trying to offload it. I asked him what kind of locker it was and he said it is an electric locker but he doesnt know any more than that

Sounds like he tore it apart and doesn't know how to put it back together.
The only reason to tear one apart is if it wasn't working to begin with. I would stear clear.

or unless he tore it apart to upgrade it, like cromo axles, lower gears, new kingpin, u-joints. i dont know what to think, but he said he would call me today if the other guy didnt take it.

If the locker is the early one that's flawed, the electromagnet stop breaks off and let's it spin around and then rip the wires off the inside. If you go look at it, check that inner wire to make sure it isn't repaired or damaged since it supposedly costs a lot ($ like new locker expensive) to replace the electromagnet.

You don't need to tear it apart to do that. You just need to remove the pin slide in the axles and put in the c-clip. If the thing was "torn" apart I would have questioned why. Sounds like you dodged a bullet to me.
