School me on HMMWV rims

Installation isn't the problem - it's removing them that's a pain.
Impact is your friend with the nuts. A cherry picker and short strap are your buddies with the runflats.

Are the nuts different on a 24 bolt wheel compared to a 12 bolt wheel?

Martin
Nuts are same between all three types of wheels.

I assumed they would be, but didn't know for sure. That makes it easy, he keeps his nuts and sends the 24 bolts to you with no nuts in exchange for 12 bolts with no nuts.

Martin

I was wondering about that too. Since he lives in central Kansas I think we are going to find a time (sooner than later) to meet up and do the trade.

I'm ok with you keeping your nuts. $8 for 25 new ones from McMaster-Carr is cheap insurance so its no problem.

BTW, I'm trying to work out something with a guy in Bellevillle for some parts. If it works, we could do it this weekend if it'll work for you, too.

Should work, just have to let me know asap so I can start tearing the wheels apart. They are all still on the truck right now. Sunday would work best as I work to 3pm on Saturday but I could still go after work.

Best way to get them out of the tires? 12 bolt and 24 bolt? I've read about people using a cherry picker?

The runflats in 12 bolts are a 2-piece type and cherry pickers work great to get them out. Just pull out the easy one and use the CP for the other half with the big rib in the middle of it. Put the CP legs over the tire and then strap something to one end of the runflat and use the CP to pull it out.

24 bolts use a 1-piece runflat thats gonna be attempted soon when it warms up.

K30guy- can you link me to the correct nuts on the McMaster website?

Mike- I already ordered 12 bolt o-rings :doah:

I just talked to a guy at trailworthyfab and he said just use a sawlzal and cut them in half since I don't plan to reuse them. I may try that.

I wouldn't cut them. You'd be surprised at who out there is looking for some to buy.

McMaster-Carr also sells o-rings incase you wanted to buy from them so you won't have to pay shipping fees twice with them and another company.

I would've done that but I already ordered O-rings from TWF. I'll know next time though. :thumb:

It's good he doesn't want your nuts. Lol. Get your own at that price. I always used a ratchet strap to squeeze the rubber run flats and then push them through the tire. That's the way i was taught to do it. Not the easiest way I'm sure but was the army way.

I'm the only one immature enough to find this amusing?
I was waiting for the punchline to come. :waytogo:

I've heard the ratchet strap, too, but a buddy of mine used his wrecker and got them out faster than any other way. BTW, I don't like to pinch my fingers or hands in those tight places to try and wrap a strap around the RF.
