school me on t-cases

yea, good luck finding that factory option, Itd be easier to find a k5 with factory power mirrors . On ck5 and the local wheeling club where people specialize in this bull**** i got ONE HIT from a guy in texas who never responded again. Im getting an atlas, or i might do the custom 208/205 thing just for the fun of it and itd be cheap as fock to do. Just gotta find someone to help me weld aluminum and cut out a custom adaptor .

well i got a factory 1ton th400k case/203 before in a 50 doller truck.

then a pair of 90 suburban perfect doors with full power options and power mirrors for 45 each . and the junk yard near me has a th400/203 now in the yard. just cant pull it with my screwed up kneck or i would have for the k case 400 / output shaft/adaptor and rangebox with input gear.

just got to look everywere.

all these items found me. i didnt go looking for them specificly.

The gears in the 203 are massive. One of the reasons they are so heavy.

Go search box for rocks on other sites. Not too popular here but I have seen alot of 231/241 t-cases and they work well. I have seen 241/205, 231/300, 231/20 etc etc etc etc. If you have access to a mill a little time and can weld aluminum you can make the adaptor and modify a 208 case to fit.

Getting the shaft made is the hard bit. That shaft is under a ton (well more like several) of force, has to be heat treated the correct alloy etc etc. etc.

I know guys who have tried to make their own shaft and they have broken them often.

The 203/205 doubler is by far the simplest anyone can do it, find factory stuff and bolt it up, just certain factory combos seem a bit harder to come by than others

The TH400/203 combo isn't all that rare, only in '77-79 3/4 and 1 tons but there were still a fair amount produced (certainly not nearly as common as 350/203's but more common than 465/203's).

Are you having difficulty finding the factory 400/203 adapter? We may have some, give us a call if that's what you're looking for. We have the TH400 mainshafts for that application too. And if you're doing a 203 doubler we can make whatever you have work.

The comment on the shaft is a good point, it has to be made of a good steel (all of ours and all from the factory are chromoly, heat treated). We dealt with less early on (90's) and they broke, with at least double the torque on it you definitely need a quality shaft between the reduction box and t-case.

My local transmission warehouse has TH400 shafts for a 203 in stock. At least they did a couple years ago

We have all of the TH400 shafts, no availability problems on any of them.

I assume most trans shops don't have any issues getting them either.

i did some searching but what would you guys pay for a used 205 in working order?

10 spline, it's clean so I pay about $75 for a nice one of those. With adapter and shifter and coupler.

sm465 tranny.

fig 8 style adaptor

10 spline input gear 205 tcase

if yoke on front output its 10 spline output. if flat flange its 30 spline output.
