School me on transmission and oil coolers. (Few questions)

Yuck. Must be deertroit problems.

Any heavy gvrw truck would have the plate style powersteering cooler with fan. My red truck says 2500 on the door but has a 9200 gvrw....

May be due to the few years difference in age :dunno: .
You can see it in this pic.
The other pic shows the 2 factory aux coolers.

Oil cooler is bigger than I thought. So matching that size should be fine actually.

Here is my cooler set-up.

Left to right: trans cooler (not being run through the rad cooler), oil cooler, steering cooler

I've never actually thought about cooling power steering until seeing that weird cooler in my frame.

That is weird. I have never seen that before. Is that factory, or a previous owner idea?

Looks to be all factory. Has cleanly bent tube, brackets, the whole shebang.

That's factory. Lots of cars and trucks have something every similar to that, that had power steering coolers. Just a bent tube that forms a return. With no fins.
Lots of heavier gvrw trucks have small ones with fins to.

Not sure what years they became available, but factory PS coolers for the "square bodies" are a metal line with a couple of bends in it (can't recall if steel or aluminum) bolted to the bottom of the core support.

I think this one factory, been on the truck since before I've had it. 77 k20 trailering special 10k gvwr. Thou my truck had both an aftermarket oil cooler and trans cooler installed. wouldn't take much to add that P/S cooler

No way that's factory, fuel injection hose clamps and janky mounting on the brake distribution block. Gm did some weird shit, but that doesn't scream factory to me.

Here's the style I've seen:

Guess it's aluminum lol.

I bought an OEM GM trans cooler that was an add-on deal, if you didn't know better, it might have been considered aftermarket too just by looking at it. None of the expected fancy fittings or formed hoses/lines. Probably a reboxed aftermarket with a couple of C/K specific mounting brackets, and a price with a zero added to the end.

Maybe so I thought the mounting was hokey, but those clamps I have seen on all kinds of gm return lines. I think those are factory style clamps for p/s return

Could be. They could be factory clamps from the vehicle that was stolen off of.
But I don't think it's gm sqaurebody factory. Could be gm factory from something else. If it works who cares.

No those clamps are factory gm. I have seen tons of them.
I like them be cause they stay round, not like a worm screw clamp

I wasn't disagreeing with you that they were or weren't factory. :dunno:
Just that they were probably off another application. I've never had that style clamp on my squares. But I also don't think any sqaures I've ever had, had any ps coolers.
It's also possible that they were changed or I simply didn't pay attention to them. But of the top of my head I have no recall of a clamp like those.

I have seen Ford trucks have that type and size of steering cooler. Ford mounted them to the side of the steering reservoir.

Yes me to I have something very similar on my 67 F250, truck is at my brothers so I can't go nab a picture

Finally got my oil cooler today.

They didn't send the fittings I ordered with it, even though it says they were delivered too.
So I'll get it mounted, and wait till that gets straightened out I guess.
I was about to ask if a cooler could be too big..... Then as I was going to the garage section to post, I remembered this thread lol.
