on the crapper...
Ok this may not be that exciting to most of you, but I just picked up this 1/2" impact wrench new for $12.50. My old generic POS impact wasn't doing the job anymore after 7 years, so I dropped by Advanced Auto just to see what they had. They guy first shows me their $30 240 ft-lb impact. I wasn't to impressed so I asked if they had anything else. He goes in the back and brings out this dusty old thing. $50 with a claimed 400 ft-lb - then he tells me he could get me 75% off. SOLD. Went home and it spun the rusty drum backing plate bolts right off. My old one wouldn't budge them. Even if it only lasts me a year or two I'll be happy.

looks like a sweet deal.....almost disposable at that price! Keep it well lubed, should last a while in a home use setup.

Speaking as someone who doesn't wrench all the time, theres nothign wrong with tools that hold up to the use you need them for. Yes, they may not be the best, but more $$$ to spend on parts, etc.

Makes my $9 auto oiler look downright expensive huh?

I agree. My dad always told me to buy the best I can afford and keep it forever. But it isn't always practical to go get a $300 impact wrench to pass on to your grandchildren. Instead I'll spend my limited funds to ensure that my 14BFF lasts forever.

Of course I had to open my Harbor Frieght flyer and find a $9.95 1/2" impact. Oh well, there are no HFs near here so I still came out ahead when you factor in shipping.

I'll never understand how china can make tools so cheap. It seems like you should be able to melt them down, sell them for scrap, and turn a profit! Maybe that is what I will do when this one dies :)

That Am Pro gun looks like an Ingersoll-Rand IR231 painted red.
