what's the deal with the 23 degrees? is that the plug angle? why is it better?

I asked the same question when I called TF about the heads. The reason its important is that all stock GM heads are 23* heads and most race tracks state in their rules that you cant run certain kinds of heads when you race. When you move to something like an 18* or 14* head you not only spend a butt-load more $$ but I guess they flow better, and produce more HP/TQ. but for me, the cost difference was too much compared to the gain. For street use 23* heads are the way to go. for real strip/race only use, go with what your tracks rules will allow or as small a degree head as you can.

Correct me if I've missed out on the information classes, but I've always heard that 400's are hard to keep cool. Yes/ NO? That would not be good for popular congested trail rides. But thats just what I thought I heard.

People who think a 400 is hard to cool are generally using radiators that are for a smaller engine (305 or 350). I treat mine like a big block (4-row radiator), 160 deg t-stat, and a good fan. It never gets above 180 degrees, it usually stays between 160 and 170. People who say all 400's run hot or that they won't turn, or just don't like high RPM's (6000-6500 range) are just wrong. It all depends on the engine that you have, each one is different. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok, so i found what is supposed to be a running 400ci for 150$, would that be a better starting point to build a badass motor for my 86k10?

[/ QUOTE ] Hell yeah put a steel 350 crank and 6" rods punch .030" over makes it a 377 and they love to rev I have one in my K-10 and it's awesome pulls like amonster from about 2800 to 7000 or so I run voetec heads with 1.6 roller rockers and a crane energizer 272 duration .454" lift cam And a performer Rpm air gap intake and a 1405 edelbrock carb and full msd ignition it thumps /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif
