My rear output seal on the NP205 was leaking so I replaced it. I had a heck of a time putting it in mostly due to the shaft sticking out in the way. I'm curious if there's a type of seal driver that is a cup type shape that fits over a shaft to drive a seal like this in. I could easily replace the seal in less than an hour except for the extra time it took getting the seal driven in.

Curious what solutions you all might have for this scenario.

Picture from when it was all brand new and shiny. Now it's all dirty and not nearly so pretty.

Go to the hardware store with the seal, find pvc that fits right. Then just walk around the pvc with a mallet and walk the seal in

I have put an end cap on the PVC an just hit the center. Too hard will crack it.
That's what I tried, but they didn't have PVC that was 3" OD. I did find a cap that was 2-7/8 which I thought was going to be perfect, but it wasn't deep enough.

What about a coupling for 2” PVC and then add a length of 2” to that. Then put a piece of 2x4 across the end and hammer on that.
 
They have 3” pvc here. I actually use that to drive seals on mixers. Need me to drop a chunk off?
 
I find a piece of steel tube and weld a piece of flat across one end. You can then whack it dead center. I have a good collection of them now. Local muffler shop has lots of cutoffs in the dumpster and they are often large diameter.
 
ABS is 3" inside diameter. 3.5" od or use 3" exhaust tubing.
 
I guess I didn't mention the seal is exactly 3" OD. The seal ORD uses in the billet bearing retainer is not the factory seal which is 3-1/16" OD.

The 2-1/2" PCV couplers were close at 2-3/4" OD. I wasn't sure they would be big enough to drive the seal in without distorting it.
 
Mine is leaking too along with the speedometer seal which are known to go bad. Ordered a a seal for that. I might go with that machined alum backing plate too. I think the clocking doesn't help matters either.
 
BTW- I bought this HF bearing kit and has all these sizes for my press.

The problem I've had is that I overfilled my 205 due to the clocking. I should have paid more attention to putting in the amount of fluid equal to the listed capacity and not as much fluid as I could possible fit in there.

I was looking at that set but I couldn't find enough info on the sizes in the kit. You posting that is very informative and I was hoping maybe someone here would post something like that.

For reference on the sleeve depth. The PVC cap I tried to use was 1.5" deep which was just deep enough to hold the seal in place but not enough to start driving it in. So the 2.5" lengths should work.

The seal for the ORD retainer is 3" OD, 2-1/8" ID, 3/8" thick. National or Timken 472015

I'm not really sure. The ID and width are the same as factory; OD is the only difference. The only factory application I could find for the 472015 was for powerglide transmissions.

One thing to note on the ORD retainer, you can fit 2 seals in the recess FWIW.

Do you have the part number for it? I'd like to get one to have for future uses. I feel like if I own the tool, I'll never need to use it again. :haha:

Nevermind, I found it. Maddox 63728. It's not one that came up in my searching.
