seating a bead on 16.5 rims?

I have seated some at home without a cheetah. here is how. if you are running 10" wide wheels cut some 12" long peices of a 2x4. stick them in the bead area to stretch them out. lay tire in the sun for several hours or days. now mount on the rim and use straps if you have to.

I have seen tires mounted by fire, but if one cheetah will not seat it then 2 will or your tire rim combo sucks.

we too have cheetahs at work...we mounted my ssrs with them...i agree taking it to the shop is a good/safe answer but from how it took his question...it seemed as though he wanted to do it at home.

the owner/operator of your local tire shop is also cheap like you. If you own a tire shop and do not own a cheetah or a similar bead seating tool then your either cheap or dumb. the whole point of charging someone to do something is because you can do it and they either can't or don't want to.
I'd have to disagree. The shop in question was a Les Schwabb. Be it a cheetah or something else, I can assure you they have the proper equipment. Like I said, this was an unusual tire, that had been mounted on an unproper rim for a long time, and as a result the tire was stuck in a narrowed position. It would not cooperate with their machine. So being a special instance, they pulled out the fire. Afterall, I wasn't paying them anything, and it was just an old 40" TSL, extremely bald, for use as a trail only spare.

I use a 15" bicycle tube put it around the rim on the front of the tire and inflate it untill it takes up the gap between the tire and rim then just inflate the tire as the tire inflates the tube rolls of the rim and presto!! the bead is sealed.

If that works thats the best idea I've heard in a long time...

I too have mounted more tires than you can shake a bag of dead kittens at, and there have been 2 or 3 occasions when the cheetah would not do it. There are some people that run tires on wheels that are not the "ideal size" for each other. In these select cases we resorted to fire. I'm not condoning it or saying that it is safe, but sometimes..... Whatever you decide to do, just use common sense.

:haha: :haha: Funny and correct. I like this guy:D . I too have had the occasion where even a cheetah would not seat a bead. It isn't that common but it does happen. And yes I/we secure the rim and use either or carb cleaner to seat it.

Oh yeah, cheetah's are also great fun at times. You can take a plastic 40 gallon trash can and lay it on it's side and.............. well you get the idea. Just make sure you have plenty or room for the can to travel. It also makes a great tennis ball cannon:rolleyes: .

OK you can start telling me that it's not safe now
