I'd like to acquire a steering box sector shaft (1985 C10, 2wd) to carry as a spare.

If an ifs box sector shaft works ( ifs rigs are basically 2wd trucks as far as front steering goes ) I have a box I can pirate the shaft from .

Pauly, I don't know about the IFS boxes. When I changed to x-over I just bolted an Autozone box in there, for the same year as the truck ('85) but 2wd.

but I forgot to add, pickup in AZ/PHX would be great.

Is your steering column a splined shaft or the D shaped shaft?

I don't know, and I can't take a look because my truck is 1500 miles away.

I would see if someone could take a pic of your current one for you then because there are two different styles. The D shaped shaft is more common in the trucks, but not always what you find.

Disregard what I was saying too... I just realized I was thinking about the shaft between the steering box and steering column, not the shaft inside the steering box.

Changing a gear box on the trail is a big enuf pain I wouldnt want to try and change the sector shaft.Probably be easier/better off carrying a spare box.

Too heavy/bulky.

i actually changed the sector shaft seals in the box in truck in less than 30 minutes, and that included shootin the bull. thats a good idea to carry as a spare. changing the box itself is a royal pain IMO.

...I've never saw a steering arm that would come off w/o a puller and an impact.

:D This is becoming very complicated. I presume you mean pitman arm rather than steering arm? There's a puller in my toolbox, the x-over install happened about 1 1/2 years ago, and the truck lives in AZ = no rust.
And for what it's worth, there's an impact in my toolbox as well. Although I doubt my Puma compressor can muster the required cfm...

Officially, I give up on this. For now.
