Sergeant Steel

Updating and improving a military M1008
Call me crazy if you want but this really works. After you mount them up and seat the beads air them way down and drive it around the block. I tried this with a customers cheapo 35s that he wanted balanced out and it helped a lot when I threw them back on the machine. Tried it with a set of toyos and they didn’t take any weights on three out of four tires and the fourth didn’t take much at all. Not sure if it seats them on the rim better or breaks in the sidewall?

Unfortunately I read this after I got the tires mounted. They seem ok and didn't seem to take much weight. Next time I will try that.

Finally got the tires mounted. Tires made a huge difference. They ride nicer than the 33's and the howling at high speed isn't that bad. I was seriously expecting Bogger howl. Anyway here's a few shots.

I'm a little ticked off at Firestone. Somehow they broke off 2 of the fake bolts on the lip of the wheel. Not sure if their machine took them off on accident or if the installer was that stupid and tried to loosen the fake bolts thinking they were real bead locks. They claim they were already broken but I had pictures from the other day to prove otherwise. Discount Tire said they could order some.

You can definitely feel the power loss from a stop. At least the RPM is lower on the highway.

Just needs twins. Turbos that is
Thought about adding the Banks single kit. $2k with no exhaust is a little much. Don't care for the 6.5 turbo since it puts the downpipe on the outside of the frame and requires more custom exhaust work. Wish the engine could handle boost levels like the Duramax can. Max power these engines make with a turbo is maybe 220hp. They can't handle much boost. If money was no object, I'd find a complete Duramax truck and swap the engine/trans/tcase/ecu/wiring but that will never happen unless I win the lottery.

I've got a book from The Diesel Page web site that has a build recipe for a naturally aspirated 6.5 that is supposed to run really well. Nothing outrageous for parts or machine work I think. Haven't read it in a while.

yeah I wanted to buy the 2 books they have for the 6.2/6.5. I still need to turn up the pump. I think the turbo alone would make a nice difference along with free flowing exhaust.

Four Wheeler did a dyno test on a 6.2 a long time ago. Good info. The additive caught my eye.

Looks good man! So I know it’s early but what do you think of the tires???
So far they are amazing. They balance fine, they have a nice ride, they look mean, and the noise isn't that bad. If I lived up in the mountains I'd have them studded for ice.
